With the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards just a month away, NBC has finally unveiled new promos of the awards show on Thursday morning. 

“Happy holidays, America. I’m Ricky Gervais, and I’m hosting the Golden Globe Awards,” he says in the first of two new promos for the hosting gig. “So, there’s your early gift. Is it just what you wanted? No. It’s not, is it?” 

The three-time Golden Globe winner himself didn’t stop there of course. Gervais is then seen spraying the set — including the cameras — with champagne, while a voiceover warns, “as usual, we have no idea what he’s going to do.”

When it was first announced that Gervais will return as host Paul Telegdy, chairman of NBC Entertainment said, “It is sure to make for an unexpected evening. We can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve.” 

The Globes will air live on NBC, January 5, at 8 p.m. from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

Awards season will be upon us again sooner than you think! The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced that it has set next year’s Golden Globes date. The 77th Golden Globe Awards have been set for January 5, 2020. 

The annual award show will be produced by Dick Clark Productions in partnership with the HFPA. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 2020 show will be the second in an eight-year deal inked between NBC and HFPA.

This year’s show falls just two days before Oscar nomination balloting closes on January 7, unlike last year, which had a bigger gap between the two dates, so it seems that this year’s Globes winnings won’t have an impact on Academy voters. 

The 2019 Golden Globes was co-hosted by Sandra Oh and Adam Samberg. The broadcast, which airs in 200 countries worldwide, logged 18.6 million viewers.
