There is always excitement when a band announces that they are releasing new music. But there is also a fair amount of surprise when they do so 40 years to the day since their last album dropped!

On September 2, the Swedish pop group gave fans everything they had hoped for. 

“I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down” were released as the first singles from an upcoming album Voyage, and the “Mamma Mia” band also confirmed that they would be embarking on a series of virtual concerts in May next year.

The shows at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will not feature the members of ABBA themselves, but rather digital versions who will appear alongside a 10-piece live band.

As for another tour? Don’t get your hopes up too high…

“It felt great to do it in the end,” said Agnetha Fältskog of the creation process. “One felt that maybe it’s the last thing we do. Same thing with the album.”

If it is indeed their final soirée, at least we can say thank you for the music.

Back in the 1970s, charts were dominated by a Swedish group who made palindromes cool. Now, almost 4 decades later, ABBA has announced that they are heading back into the studio!

The band is made up of Agnetha Fältskrog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstrad. The name “ABBA” was derived from the first letters of each of their names.

The foursome shot to fame in 1974 by winning the Eurovision Song Contest — giving Sweden its first victory in the global competition.

In an Instagram post, the group reveal that they have already recorded a new song called I Still Have Faith in You, as well as one other whose name has not yet been revealed.

“The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence. We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience! We may have come of age, but the song is new. And it feels good.”

We think the band itself said it best: “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme!”
