With the premiere of Season Two fast approaching, it’s time for a Big Little Lies recap.

The second season of Big Little Lies will see the return of Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley aka The Monterey Five. They will be joined by new characters including the amazing Meryl Streep! Streep plays Mary Louise, the grieving mother of Perry (Alexander Skarsgård) who died at the end of Season One. Mary Louise is there to get some answers about that fatal night.

“I’m playing someone who is dealing with whatever the deficits of her parenting were, whatever the mysteries and how you can’t go back in time and fix something, all those issues,” Streep explained. “That was interesting to me.”

The second season picks up after Perry’s death, which was caused by Bonnie (Kravitz) when she saw him getting aggressive with his wife Celeste (Kidman).

“We left off with a lie, so it would have been disingenuous not to mine that lie for all its malignancy,” writer David E. Kelley told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s going to result in more skewed fractures and fissures in the friendships between the women, some of the marriages, and some of the individual psyches.”

Per the official logline, the forthcoming season “will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode…the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”

Big Little Lies Season Two premieres, June 9.

While the upcoming second season of Big Little Lies is reportedly going to be bigger and better than the first season, it seems that there won’t be a third season of HBO’s acclaimed drama.

Deadline reports that both cast and creative team have said that there are no plans for any additional seasons of the HBO drama. When asked by reporters if there are plans for future seasons during the Television Critics Association press tour Friday, creator and executive producer David E. Kelley said, “There’s no such plan now. “It’s one and two, and we like our closure with season two, but that will probably be it.”

While series star and executive producer Reese Witherspoon joked that Kelley has said that before, Nicole Kidman, also star and exec producer reiterated the same sentiment.

“There’s no plan for it to end, specifically,” Kidman said. “This was a long shoot for us, and it was an enormous amount of work, and we’re just amazed that we can be here. Not to compare it to the first one because artistically it’s a wonderful thing to take something and go and the success of the first one was so massive, so we go, ‘OK, let’s jump off the cliff.’ But at the same time, it is its own entity and hopefully it will be taken that way. It was definitely made with an enormous amount of love.”

Big Little Lies Season 2 stars Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, Witherspoon, Kidman and Shailene Woodley. Joining the season’s cast is Meryl Streep who will star as Mary Louise, mother to Alexander Skarsgard’s Perry.

Big Little Lies returns in June.

Big Little Lies is finally coming back to our small screens after a two-year-long break. Just when we thought we couldn’t be more excited about it, Reese Witherspoon proved us wrong as she shared the first look at the five lead characters on Instagram.

This photo comes straight from HBO’s latest promo and it shows the Otter Bay Elementary moms standing in a police lineup, while still wearing their costumes from last season’s epic finale. A short clip also featured a first look at Meryl Streep, playing the mother of Alexander Skarsgård’s character.

Season 2 of Big Little Lies wrapped up back in August, and Witherspoon bid farewell to her co-stars and director Andrea Arnold in an adorable Instagram post. She thanked them for inspiring her, supporting her and making her laugh and cry, and said she can’t wait to see them all again.

Big Little Lies also stars Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz and it should come back to HBO sometime this year.

Fans of Big Little Lies have been warned to enjoy the show’s second season, because we don’t know if we’re getting anymore.

The series is based on the novel by Australian author, Liane Moriarty, about the lives of 3 women in a coastal town.

Produced by its stars, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, the show’s first season covered the contents of the book.

The series was so well-received by audiences that fans lucked out when it was announced that a second season would be filmed, with the addition of Meryl Streep as part of the award-winning cast.

Now, Nicole, who won both an Emmy and Golden Globe for her role as Celeste, has warned that third time might not be the charm.

“I think it would simply be hard to get the whole group together,” she told Variety about the prospects of a third season. “But we would love to do it.”

Season 2 of Big Little Lies comes out next year.

Big Little Lies is officially returning for season 2, with both Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman on board. Andrea Arnold will replace Jean-Marc Vallée as a director, and she will serve as an executive producer alongside Kidman and Witherspoon.

“I’m excited to announce the return of Big Little Lies,” HBO’s programming chief Casey Bloys. “David Kelley wrote beautiful scripts and Reese and Nicole were, once again, a force to be reckoned with, reuniting the cast and recruiting the talented Andrea Arnold to direct. We look forward to working with this amazing group of artists.”

If you are hoping to get new episodes soon, we have to disappoint you. Bloys discussed the potential release date with Vulture, saying that the filming is scheduled for spring of 2018 and that the second season will premiere in 2019. Creator of the series, David E. Kelley will again handle the writing duties. Although the rest of the cast didn’t sign on yet, the network is expecting their return.

Reese Witherspoon issued a statement following the announcement of season two, saying that she is excited to work with Arnold.

“I’m thrilled to be bringing back this talented team of artists,” – said Witherspoon. “It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them. I’m beyond excited to be working with talented and acclaimed director Andrea Arnold who will be at the helm. Andrea’s unique storytelling style will be a welcome addition to the filmmaking team.”

Based on the novel by Liane Moriarty, Big Little Lies premiered in February 2017 and immediately received critical acclaim, currently holding 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The series earned 16 Emmy nominations, winning 8 of them. Since the initial seven episodes of Big Little Lies covered the novel material and had a “perfect ending,” there was a doubt that the show will return for season two. Still, after the success and critical acclaim, HBO approached Moriarty asking her to write a story for a second season.

With the exception of a few roles, Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman isn’t really known for her work in television in the United States. Fortunately for her, she made her presence felt at the 2017 Emmy Awards.

The actress took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her work in the HBO miniseries Big Little Lies. She managed to beat Carrie Coon, Jessica Lange, Felicity Huffman, Susan Sarandon, and her Big Little Lies co-star Reese Witherspoon for the trophy.

This is her first Emmy win in her illustrious career; in 2012, she was nominated in the same category for the HBO film Hemingway & Gellhorn, which was her first acting appearance on TV since 1993.

Kidman didn’t forget Witherspoon during her acceptance speech. “Reese, I share this with you. Without you, I would not be standing up here,” she stated at the award ceremony.

Both stars will work together again in the crime drama Truly Madly Guilty, which is set to start shooting in the near future. Both Truly Madly Guilty and Big Little Lies were written by Australian author Liane Moriarty. Over the summer, talks of a second season for Big Little Lies began with both ladies looking to reprise their roles.

Before the year is out, she’ll appear in the psychological horror-thriller The Killing of a Sacred Deer with Colin Farrell, who starred with her in the drama The Beguiled earlier this year. The film is directed by  Yorgos Lanthimos, who was nominated for two Oscars for his work in Dogtooth and The Lobster. Next year, the actress will appear in The Upside, Boy Erased, and become a part of the DC Extended Universe with Aquaman.
