]]>It’s been almost three decades since Carey released this song back in 1994, but its popularity isn’t fading away. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in 2019, and it’s currently the longest-running holiday no. 1 hit in the chart’s history, with five weeks on top.
In addition to topping the Hot 100, “All I Want for Christmas is You” became the first song to rule the chart in three distinct years because it will still be at no. 1 once 2021 starts. It also made it to the top of Billboard’s global charts, both including and excluding the U.S.
Carey’s Christmas classic isn’t the only holiday song that made it to the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. Dean Martin’s “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow”, Wham!’s “Last Christmas” and Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run” also entered the chart.

]]>Billboard’s senior vice president, Silvio Pietroluongo, said that their main goal was to “present charts that are reflective of a world view” and added they’re “committed to the continued expansion of territories and digital service providers contributing to the global charts”.
Billboard’s Global 200 will be based on worldwide streams and download sales from more than 200 territories. The inaugural chart was topped by “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, just like Billboard Hot 100 that same week.
Billboard Global Excl. U.S. will put emphasis on all territories outside the United States. It doesn’t account for radio play, just like Billboard Global 200, because they’re not consistent and reliably measured from country to country. There’s already a major difference between these two charts, as Maluma’s “Hawái” topped Billboard Global Excl. U.S. this week.
