The musical icon announced Friday that he will be releasing his first and only biography this year. 

“My life has been one helluva roller coaster ride and I’m now ready to tell you my story, in my own words. My first and only official autobiography will be released October 2019,” he tweeted.

In a short video filmed in his favorite book show he added, “I can’t wait for you to read because it’s the truth and so many books that have been written about me haven’t exactly been truthful. I can’t wait for you to see what I have to say about my life.”

The “Tiny Dancer” singer is currently on his farewell tour and plans to retire from music once the tour finishes in 2021 after more than 300 shows in five continents. 

This year will also see the release of a biopic about John’s life, Rocket Man, starring Taron Egerton as the musical genius.

The yet to be titled memoir is due to be released on October 15.

The biography will be titled: The Butterfly Effect: How Kendrick Lamar Ignited the Soul of Black America and will outline the story of Lamar’s “rise to rap superstardom”. Marcus J. Moore, a senior Editor of Bandcamp and Pitchfork writer, made the Twitter announcement that he will be the one penning the book.

“Some big news I’ve been eager to share,” he shared. “I’ve signed with Touchstone Books to write the cultural biography of Kendrick Lamar. My book, The Butterfly Effect: How Kendrick Lamar Ignited the Soul of Black America, will detail his rise to rap superstardom.”

He spoke further about the book deal with Pigeons & Planes, saying:

“My book details the artist’s coming of age as an MC, how he helped resurrect two languishing genres (bebop and jazz), his profound impact on a racially fraught America, and his emergence as the bonafide King of Rap.”

The book will also include interviews with people from Lamar’s past, going back to childhood. It will talk largely about the global success of Lamar’s work.

“Having covered Lamar’s music over the years, I’m always fascinated by the sheer gravity of his work,” Moore said. “He’s an iconic musician and someone who truly appreciates the foundation of black art, using it as a vehicle to shed light on his community. He’s never forgotten where he’s come from and I think that’s honorable.”
