Blink 182’s Travis Barker reveals that the new album will be more “experimental” and will feature “new rhythms” and “new ideas”.

The new album will be the first since 2016’s California and although there is no release date in sight, Blink 182’s drummer, Travis Barker, has promised that the album is well on its way. Speaking with Billboard, he also gave fans a couple of hints regarding what we can expect from the new release.

“I’m really excited because we’re about 70 percent finished with our album,” he said in relation to the band’s upcoming tour. “I feel like this is the closest we’ve come to something like [2003’s] Blink-182 since that album, which is one of my favorite Blink albums by far.”

Barker continued: “I feel like [2016’s] California was similar to [1999’s] Enema of the State and [2001’s] Take Off Your Pants and Jacket: reestablishing the band, giving fans what they really want and expect from Blink.”

He added: “Now that we got that out of our system naturally, we’re not writing like that this time. It’s more experimental. It’s not like you’re listening and thinking, “Oh I’ve heard that before, oh I can compare this to this other song.” With this album we’re reestablishing new songs, new rhythms, new ideas.”

We will reveal more details about the new album when they are released.

Blink 182’s new album is going to “go off in completely weird directions”, according to bassist Marc Hoppus.

The pop-punk band’s last album California was released in 2016. Although they’ve all been busy doing their own thing since then, the band are currently working together on a new album and they’re trying to do something different with it.

“After playing in this band for 27 years, I want to push it and do different things and take blink to places where we haven’t been before,” Hoppus told Kerrang!. “We’re really trying to do that on the new record. We want to do with our band what we did in 2003 with ‘Blink-182’, where we take our foundations and go off in completely weird directions.”

The band also confirmed that this “weird” album is not just an idea, but is currently a priority for everyone in the band.

“That’s the thing, our main bands are our main focus and will always be,” he said. “We all have our outside interests and our outside things, but we’re pretty straightforward with one another; blink really is everybody’s priority and that’s understood among all of us.”

More details to be shared when announced.

A punk band doing a Las Vegas residency? This is something we never thought we will see, but still, here we are. Blink-182 is heading to Palms Casino Resort, Las Vegas where they will play 16 live shows, taking place between May 26th and November 17th.

“When the Palms asked us to do a residency here in Vegas, we said ‘Absolutely!’,” said bassist Mark Hoppus in a statement. “Now, we just have to cast our showgirls, create our set list – a true throwback of Vegas classics with Sinatra, Liberace. Maybe we can even marry someone onstage … The possibilities in Vegas are endless.”

Blink-182 is just one of the many music acts who decided to settle in Las Vegas for an extended period of time. Britney Spears had a successful four-year residency at Planet Hollywood while The Backstreet Boys started their residency at the same location in 2017 and continue to add additional dates for the gig. Most recently, Lady Gaga penned a deal which will see her performing 74 dates at the MGM Park Theater later in 2018 and will get around $100 million for her efforts.

Although Blink-182 lost their co-frontman, guitarist and lead vocal Tom DeLonge in 2015, the band still remained popular with the audience even after replacing him with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba. The band released an album with Skiba, 2016’s California, and topped the charts in several countries including getting the top spot on US Billboard 200. Although California received mixed reviews, it still managed to be a commercial success and earn the band their first career Grammy Awards nomination. The band recently announced that they are working on their eighth studio album.
