The unofficial development of a Star Wars standalone movie centered on Boba Fett has been called to a halt. While Disney and LucasFilm have never officially announced the film, rumors of its development surfaced back in May. Variety now confirms that the project no longer in development.

Apparently, Lucasfilm has been exploring the possibility of a Boba Fett feature since 2013 and in April 2015 and had even prepared a teaser clip for it.

Boba Fett debuted in 1980’s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and re-appeared in 1983’s Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The stand-alone film about the galactic bounty hunter was to be helmed by Logan director James Mangold.

The company is currently focusing on its Star Wars streaming TV series The Mandalorian from Jon Favreau. Favreau teased plot details on Instagram, “After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars’ universe,” read his post. “The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

Dave Filoni will direct the first episode of the series. Bryce Dallas Howard and Deborah Chow will direct additional episodes.
