The second season of Bridgerton proved to be as much of a hit as its first as viewers watched Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma evolve from enemies to lovers. At the time of its release in April 2022, Season 2 resulted in Bridgerton becoming the most watched English-language television series on Netflix.

Someone who did not contribute to the 193 million viewing hours during the opening weekend, however, was Page. 

The 34-year-old actor stole hearts around the world as the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset, in Season 1 of the period drama. Despite the role projecting him to stardom, Page confirmed that he would not be returning for the sophomore season, and has now revealed that he has not even seen it!

Much like the novel series on which the show is based, each season will focus on a different Bridgerton sibling. However, the Duke was noticeably missing when his wife, Daphne, attended family functions, due to Page’s decision not to reprise the role. 

It was hoped that The Gray Man star would reconsider, but he has again ruled that out. “They’re free to do as they like,” he said in regards to recasting the character. “You really do have to be brave about ending stories like that.”

Bridgerton has already been renewed for Seasons 3 and 4, with the next set to focus on Colin and Penelope.

An exclusive first-look of the Shondaland Regency-era drama based on Julia Quinn’s novels was released at Netflix’s TUDUM event and from the looks of it, the two don’t have the smoothest start.

“When you manage to find this paragon of virtue, what makes you think she will accept your suit? Are the ladies of London to be so easily won by a pleasing smile and absolutely nothing more?” Kate says in the clip, and adds that Anthony’s opinion of himself is “entirely too high.”

“Your character is as deficient as your horsemanship,” she concludes.

The second season will be following another book in Quinn’s series titled The Viscount Who Loved Me and focuses on Anthony’s journey for love.

Additions to the cast of Season 2 include Charithra Chandran, Rupert Young, Shelley Conn, and Calam Lynch.

Bridgerton has already been renewed for a third and fourth season and it’s getting a Young Queen Charlotte spin-off.

Back in July, the show was shut down indefinitely after a second confirmed case. Bridgerton was one of several high-profile projects shooting in the U.K. that was impacted by the pandemic. Another notable one was Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon.

Season 2 will focus on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the family’s eldest son, and his journey to find a suitable partner.

“We pick up Anthony after we’ve seen what he’s been through with his mistress. He’s thinking, ‘Was that love?’ Some would call it that, others would not. We’re exploring those concepts of duty and honor once again,” Van Dusen teased.
