]]>Rae dropped her debut single “Obsessed” back in 2021 and used it to tease the release of her debut studio album. This album still hasn’t seen the light of day, since several songs have been scrapped after being leaked online. Instead of throwing them away altogether, Rae decided to make them a part of her EP AR, which hit the shelves on August 18.
“Before I can move on to my next chapter in music, here’s a little sign off to my previous one. A few of you may have heard these songs after they were unfortunately leaked last year.. but if you loved them, now you can listen to them on all streaming platforms!!!” she wrote on social media.
AR features a total of four songs, including “I Got It Bad”, “Nothing On (But the Radio”, “It Could’ve Been U”’, and “2 Die 4” featuring Charli XCX. Her debut single “Obsessed” is also available as a Spotify bonus track.

]]>Charli XCX joined forces with Ramez Silyan to direct a thrilling, racing-themed visual for “Speed Drive”. Even though it was featured in one of the film’s most memorable sequences, the video for this song doesn’t feature any clips from Barbie and it simply shows Charli XCX driving a convertible pink Corvette, with Devon Lee Carlson by her side.
Sam Smith also makes a brief cameo, after giving Charli XCX a video call in the middle of the chorus. Smith’s appearance makes sense since their song “Man I Am” was featured on Barbie: The Album, but it’s also possible that this cameo teases a new collaboration between the two.
“Speed Drive” was released as the third single from Barbie: The Album and it reached no. 9 in the UK, in addition to making it to the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. This album also produced hit singles “Dance the Night” by Dua Lipa, “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish, and “Barbie World” by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice ft. Aqua.

The upcoming album follows her 2020 lockdown record how i’m feeling now. She previously announced the arrival of her new single “Good Ones” on September 2.
“I’m exploring what it means to be a pop star on a major label in a not very current way. And that’s really fun to me,” she told Refinery29 when speaking about the new album.
“There are a couple of songs that have stayed as a part of this new project… And to be honest, the meaning of them hasn’t changed. I mean, they were all kind of about sex. And that’s still been quite constant for me throughout the pandemic.”
The “Focus” singer recently joined Saweetie as a featured artist on Joel Corry and Jax Jones’ latest track “Out Out”. She also debuted her new podcast with BBC Charli XCX’s Best Song Ever.

]]>The album was the first one made in quarantine by a major artist and it was first announced on April 6, before being released on May 15th.
“It’ll be very DIY—I’ll make it from scratch, very indicative of the times we’re in,” she said during a Zoom session with fans and advance streams were available on the 14th.
“It felt only natural to document myself making this album,” Charli said of the film to Variety. “I don’t think I’ve ever made music in such a unique situation: being so logistically far apart from my collaborators, but going through exactly the same thing, writing songs about my relationship with my boyfriend sitting in the next room, and being so connected to my fans in such an intense and creative way, it felt quite overwhelming and heartwarming all at the same time. So I wanted to film it all.”
“Why not add to the pressure of making an extremely personal album within a five-week timeline by putting a load of cameras in my face and zooming in on my personality and insecurities too??! You know???,” she continued.
The film’s currently in post-production and there’s no release date set yet.
