The Chopard Trophy ceremony is one of the most star-studded events at Cannes Film Festival, and for a very good reason. The festival’s official sponsor uses this special occasion to honor young stars who impressed them with their talent – including this year’s recipients Florence Pugh and François Civil.

Civil received this special honor after establishing himself as one of the most promising French actors, while Pugh grabbed everyone’s attention with her breakout roles in critically acclaimed period drama Lady Macbeth and mini-series The Little Drummer Girl.

Pugh may be a newcomer, but she’s no stranger to winning awards. The Young British actress received several accolades for her performance in Lady Macbeth and even ended up being nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award.

We’ll soon get to see her in Little Women as Amy March, a role which, she says, perfectly captures the complexity of characters she wants to play in the future.

“It’s important for me to play strong women, but it’s equally as important to play real women who might also be weak and confused and emotional, too. They don’t have to be good, they can be bad but still lovable because I think that’s how we all are in reality,” she said during the Chopard Trophy ceremony.
