TBS’s talk show Conan is ending its 11-year-long run soon. Host Conan O’Brien made the news official on YouTube, saying that the show’s last episode will air on June 24th.

According to O’Brien, the final weeks of Conan will include a “fun look back” to some of the most interesting moments that the show had to offer in the past years and is set to feature an extensive lineup of special guests.

O’Brien won’t cut ties with TBS altogether, as his series of specials Conan Without Borders will continue its run on the network.

Conan O’Brien’s next venture will be producing and hosting a “weekly variety show” with HBO Max as well as taking part in other projects with this streaming service. Although there are few details about the upcoming weekly show, it is expected to include a different format compared to O’Brien’s past work.

O’Brien started Conan after his infamous exit from The Tonight Show in 2010. Originally an hour-long talk show before being scaled to a half-hour format in 2019, the program features comedy bits, recurring sketches, celebrity guests, and more.

During its run, which will include around 1,500 episodes when everything is said and done, Conan received several Primetime Emmy Awards nominations—Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media in 2012 and Original Creative Achievement in Interactive Media within an Unscripted Program in 2018.

Ten years after he moved to TBS, Conan O’Brien has announced that he is leaving the network. The last episode of the show will air in June 2021. TBS will still air the popular TV host’s series of travel specials Conan Without Borders.

According to the press release by WarnerMedia, O’Brien and his team will move the show to HBO Max. According to O’Brien, he is looking forward to continuing doing whatever he does on the new platform (and getting free service). “In 1993 Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: ‘As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform’,” said O’Brien.

It seems the feeling is mutual. Calling O’Brien’s comedy “energetic, relatable, and at times, absurdist”, HBO and HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys said that the network cannot wait to see what O’Brien and Team Coco will come up with while working at their new home.

O’Brien is an alumnus of both Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons. For the last 28 years, he has hosted some kind of a late-night talk show. He has hosted The Tonight Show on NBC and his self-titled show on TBS. He also hosts his own podcast.

Conan O’Brien isn’t going anywhere!

Conan, which has been on a pre-scheduled hiatus since March 16, will air new full episodes beginning March 30 despite the Coronavirus.

The new shows will be shot remotely on an iPhone, without an audience and with guest interviews being filmed via video chat, while the production staff will remain working from home, per the network.

“The quality of my work will not go down because technically that’s not possible,” said O’Brien.

“Our first priority is the health and well-being of everyone in the Team Coco family, and our second priority is to try and find a way that we can do our jobs safely, from home, and contribute some entertainment for our fans out there who may be hungry for silly distraction,” added executive producer Jeff Ross.

Conan airs Monday-Thursday on TBS.
