Bad news: David Bowie’s family has not approved the project.

The Space Oddity singer passed away in 2016 from liver cancer at the age of 69. An actor in his own right, Bowie starred in 87 projects throughout his career, but will now have the first movie made about him since his death.

Entitled Stardust, it will document the 1971 trip to America that inspired the creation of Ziggy Stardust, Bowie’s most famous alter-ego.

The late superstar will be portrayed by upcoming actor Johnny Flynn who has starred in Netflix’s Lovesick, with Jena Malone of The Hunger Games playing his first wife, Angie.

The movie will be helmed by Death of a President director, Gabriel Range.

However, Bowie’s son and Moon director, Duncan Jones, has confirmed via Twitter that the Bowie family is not on board.

“I’m not saying this movie is not happening. I honestly wouldn’t know. I’m saying that as it stands, this movie won’t have any of dads music in it, & I can’t imagine that changing,” he wrote. “If you want to see a biopic without his music or the families blessing, that’s up to the audience.”

The biopic will begin filming later this year.
