Is Superman in Michael B. Jordan’s future?

According to Variety, DC Films isn’t quite finished with Superman, and are looking to re-cast the role.

The iconic character has been rebooted two different times in the last 13 years once with Brandon Routh in Superman Returns and later with Henry Cavill in Man of Steel, but DC Films are still looking to revive the character and make it relevant to modern audiences — in comes a high-profile talent to star as the iconic character.

According to the outlet, it was Jordan himself who pitched an idea for a new take on the Man of Steel to Warner Bros. earlier this year. But even if things go forward, we won’t get to see Jordan as the caped superhero anytime before 2023.

There’s no word on a script or director attached to the pitch.

Aquaman maintained its reign at the International box office for the third straight week with gross earnings in excess of $91.3 million over the weekend.

The James Wan’s superhero film has now amassed over $482.8 million in more than 70 territories. China led that pack this weekend with $23.3 million. Korea followed with $9.9 million while France, Brazil, and Germany contributed $15 million in total.

Locally, the film hasn’t been the best-selling DC movie. Justice League grossed $93.8 million in its first three days at the US box office. By contrast, Aquaman earned $67.4 million. The Jason Momoa led superhero movie is, however, still popular in theaters. At a time when Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns are also competing for the same audience, Aquaman has been doing well both locally and internationally.

While Aquaman has been performing splendidly in China, it’s also having to compete with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, grossing $26.1 million in its opening weekend. The animated film has since then made more than $120 million, well below Aquaman.

Bumblebee, which was aired in 38 territories when it first came out, earned $21 million in its first weekend. It went on to gross $31 million. Mary Poppins Returns, debuted for $20.3 million in 17 territories before earning over $51 million in the next two weeks.
