]]>That’s right, just days after the film opened in theaters to the tune of a whopping $31 million, Neame and Fellowes spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the possibility of a sequel. They echoed each other saying that its the love for the Downton brand that will push them to make a sequel happen.
“We’ve got some ideas about what we do next if it happened,” Neame told the outlet. “The fans have been used to watching all six seasons of the television show at home in the comfort of their living rooms and for this to work, the fans have to be motivated to get out and buy tickets and go to the theater. If the fans do that, then the movie will do well, and there will be an appetite amongst all of us to maybe revisit the whole thing.”
Fellowes added that he would “never say never” to the idea of another Downton film. “We just have to see if there’s an appetite for it, if there’s a taste for it, and see where we would want to go with the different stories,” he said.
Downton Abbey earned an “A” CinemaScore and 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

]]>The first official trailer for the Downton Abbey movie was finally released Tuesdays and it confirms that the big event the Crawley family is preparing for is a royal visit. Picking up about a year and a half after the end of the series, it means that the family will get to meet King George V and his wife, Queen Mary.
The highly anticipated big screen adaptation of the small screen hit stars all our favorite characters from the show including Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery), Carson (Jim Carter), and Bertie (Harry Hadden-Paton) among others.
Last year, Michael Engler said of the plot, “Life is settling into these new realities when this event happens at Downton that brings everybody together. The storyline has expanded the scale of it. It takes the things you love about Downton — the romance, the intrigue, the pageantry — and makes it bigger.”
The film hails from Julian Fellowes, who also wrote the script. Engler is directing.
Downton Abbey hits theaters September 20.

]]>Following 6 successful season on television, a feature film about the Crawley family and their staff was announced earlier this year, much to the delight of everyone who enjoys a little aristocracy.
Production on the film — directed by Michael Engler who helmed many episodes of the series — began at the end of August, with most of the cast, including Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Penelope Wilton, and Maggie Smith all returning.
Focus Features has now announced September 13, 2019, as the international release date for the film.
The US will get its chance to go back to Downton a week later on the 20th of September.
Details regarding the storyline have been scarce, but we have little doubt that the multiple Emmy-award winning series will do just fine on the big screen!

]]>Imelda Staunton, who played Professor Umbridge in the Harry Potter franchise is first on the list of stars added. We don’t know what part she’ll be playing but we assume that the Oscar winner’s talents will be utilized.
Sherlock Holme’s Geraldine James and The Thick of It‘s David Haig will also be joining Staunton alongside The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy‘s Simon Jones, Sense8‘s Tuppence Middleton, Peaky Blinders‘ Kate Phillips, and Goodbye Christopher Robin‘s Stephen Campbell Moore.
The new members will be joining the list of returning cast members from the show. This includes Hugh Bonneville, Dame Maggie Smith, and Michelle Dockery. Lily James, however, who recently starred in Mama Mia! Here We Go Again will not be returning. Her reasoning is that her “character Rose moved off to New York, so it would be farfetched to bring her back.”
The release date for the Downton Abbey movie has not been confirmed but we do know that filming is underway.

]]>Los Angeles may be a far cry from the lawns of Downton, but 3 of our favourites found themselves altogether and even snapped a picture to prove it.
“Dorks,” wrote below the photograph which included herself, her late on-screen husband Dan Stevens, and their brother-in-law, Allen Leech.
This will be the beginning of many reunions for at least 2 of the actors as a Downton Abbey film is set to begin production very soon.
While it was assumed that Dan will not be on set, as his character passed away in season 3, the 35-year-old has teased otherwise, commenting: “Should Matthew have a mustache for the #DowntonAbbeyMovie…? Vote below.”
With the summer almost over, shooting is expected to start any day.

]]>Following rumors, the show has confirmed that a Downton Abbey movie is definitely on its way. The period drama last aired in 2015 and rumors of a spin-off movie have been circulating since 2016.
The announcement appeared on the show’s official Facebook and Twitter account and read:
“Welcome back to Downton! We’re thrilled to announce that Downton Abbey is coming to the big screen. Film production begins this summer.”

It has previously been rumored that Maggie Smith has signed on to star in the upcoming film and the producer said that the “original principal cast” would definitely be involved. Funnily enough, Smith expressed last year that she wasn’t too keen on the idea. At the BFI and Radio Times Festival 2017 she said:
“I just think it’s squeezing it dry, do you know what I mean? I don’t know what it could possibly be.”
She also added that the show has made living a normal life difficult: “I led a perfectly normal life until Downton Abbey. I’m not kidding. I’d go to theatres, I’d go to galleries, things like that on my own. And now I can’t and that’s awful. The Fulham Road’s dodgy!”
The successful TV series received a Bafta tribute in 2015 and has won three Golden Globes, 15 Primetime Emmy Awards and 69 Emmy nominations.
The movie is expected to go into production at the end of summer.
