]]>Jesse Ehrman, Warner Bros Motion Pictures’ president of production, said they’re honored to join forces with Goddard and see him add his vision to the Matrix canon.
“Drew came to Warner Bros with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters,” said Ehrman in a statement.
Despite not directing the next Matrix film, the original co-writer and co-director Lana Wachowski will be back as one of its executive producers. She revived the franchise with The Matrix Resurrections in 2021, which marked the first film in this series to be directed solely by her.
Goddard’s new take is still in the early stages of development, so it remains unclear how it connects to the original franchise. We also don’t know if any of the core cast members, including Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne-Moss, and Laurence Fishburne, will be back for this sequel.
