That’s why it’s one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and Greta Gerwig finally gave us a sneak peek into her latest project.

The Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director recently set down with Vanity Fair to discuss her adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel and used the opportunity to share the first look at this period drama.

She unveiled a couple of pictures, showing the leading ladies Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Saoirse Ronan and Eliza Scanlen in character as the March sisters.

This timeless coming-of-age tale was always very close to Gerwig’s heart, and bringing it to the big screen was a deeply personal experience. Despite the fact the story is set in the post-Civil War era, Little Women always felt fairly modern because it follows several female characters, who have a very strong sense of self and are marching to the beat of their own drum.

“They were just people. They were not in a period piece, they were just living. They were the most modern people who had ever existed, up till that point,” explained Gerwig.

Celebrated author Louisa May Alcott released this acclaimed book in 1868. Her tale of the March sisters growing up in post-civil war America is still considered one of the best coming of age stories of all time. It’s been subject of several adaptions in the past, including a 1994 version starring Winona Ryder and Susan Sarandon.

Gerwig did the impossible with her upcoming remake and managed to find an even more star-studded cast. Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet, stars of her previous film Lady Bird, agreed to reunite with the director. Hollywood veterans Meryl Streep and Laura Dern also accepted her invitation. Gerwig proved she has an eye for great new talent, by casting rising stars Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth), James Norton (War & Peace) and Eliza Scanlen (Sharp Objects).

Emma Watson is the latest addition to this amazing cast, but she’s actually set to replace Emma Stone. Oscar winner was initially cast as Meg March, but had to drop out because of scheduling conflicts. This isn’t even the first time two Emmas replaced each other on the big screen. Stone previously took over the main role in La La Land from Watson after she decided to film Beauty and the Beast instead.

It’s been 8 years since the cast of Harry Potter packed away their wands and wrapped filming on The Deathly Hallows: Part II. But, it did seem as though a mini reunion took place last weekend. Despite playing enemies on screen, Tom Felton, who portrayed Draco Malfoy in the film franchise, shared a photo on Instagram of himself, Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom).

Although the location of the picture cannot be confirmed as Diagon Alley, it does appear to have been taken on Sunday which marked Emma’s 28th birthday.

The 30-year-old captioned the photo of the trio with, “School mates #hogwartsalumni.”

Draco’s onscreen father, Jason Isaacs, commented on the snap, saying “It’s like the front cover of Orthodontist Monthly,” to which Emma responded, “It’s true, our teeth do look excellent!”
