Foo Fighters released a lengthy statement detailing their upcoming album and described it as a brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything they endured over the last year.

“But Here We Are is a testament to the healing powers of music, friendship, and family… Informed by decades of maturity and depth, But Here We Are is the sound of brothers finding refuge in the music that brought them together in the first place 28 years ago,” reads the band’s statement.

“Rescued” was released as the first single from this album, and they called it the first of ten songs that run the emotional gamut from rage and sorrow to serenity and acceptance, and myriad points in between.

But Here We Are will hit the shelves on June 2, and it’s still unclear who will replace Hawkins after he tragically passed away in March last year. Foo Fighters canceled their tour and only performed tribute concerts in the wake of his death before announcing they’ll continue performing together in December last year.

The Global Icon Award is a mixture of the network’s Europe Music Awards (EMAs) and it “celebrates an artist/band whose unparalleled career and continued impact and influence have maintained a unique level of global success in music and beyond,” according to MTV. 

Queen, Eminem, and Whitney Houston are past recipients of the EMAs version of the award.

Foo Fighters received three nominations for “Shame Shame” including best choreography, best rock video, and best cinematography. They’re also set to perform at the VMAs.

They were first nominated in 1996 for “Big Me” in four categories and they won for best group video. They also won best rock video for “Walk” in 2011.

Also performing at this year’s VMAs are Lil Nas X, Lorde, Machine Gun Kelly, Olivia Rodrigo, and Camila Cabello.

The MTV VMAs’ are set to air on September 12.

In addition to these three A-list acts, The Go-Go’s, Carole King, and Todd Rundgren are also a part of the class of 2021 in the Performers category. They were eligible for the induction this year because their first commercial recording was released at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

This year’s list of inductees is quite historic because three of them—Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Tina Turner, and Carole King—entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the second time. Chairman John Sykes also noted it’s a true rarity that three of the six inductees are women.

“This is our most diverse class in the history of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It really represents the Hall’s ongoing commitment to honor the artists that have created not only rock & roll, but the sound of youth culture,” said Sykes in a statement.

The induction ceremony is expected to take place on October 30th at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

The album sold 64,000 copies in the U.S. in the week ending in February 11. 2017’s Concrete and Gold and 2011’s Wasting Light, previously made the top spots. Foo Fighters first reached a top 10 spot on the chart with their second album, 1997’s The Colour and the Shape, and since then the band has had eight top 10s.

The Top Album Sales chart includes all formats (CD, vinyl LP, digital download, etc.). In vinyl LP sales alone, the album has 23,000, making it the third-largest sales week for a hard rock album. Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy and Queen’s Greatest Hits are the only hard rock albums to surpass Medicine and Midnight.

Rounding out the top 10 spots are Morgan Wallen’s albums Dangerous: The Double Album and If I Know Me, The Weeknd’s The Highlights, One Direction’s Up All Night, Taylor Swift’s Evermore, Ariana Grande’s Positions, Harry Styles’ Fine Lines, and Barry Gibb’s Barry Gibb & Friends: Greenfields – The Gibb Brothers Songbook, Vol. 1.

It is 37 minutes long and contains nine songs. Greg Kurstin who worked with the band on their last album Concrete and Gold also produced this album.

The band also played “Times Like These”, capturing the feeling of the moments at the end of a lengthy and sometimes nail-biting wait for the election results.

“I actually recorded the whole thing in sequence,” Grohl told Wilkinson. “I was really, really excited to do this. I mean, it was almost like a school project. I was preparing, I had charts.”

Grohl then went on to reveal that his favorite track on the debut album is “Exhausted.”

“I really loved the song ‘Exhausted’,” he said. “That one came later than a lot of the other ones. The guitar sound, which is so crazy and blown out, it was done with this amp that Barrett [Jones, co-producer] had bought in London that was a petrol can. It was this red plastic petrol can – the kind that you would use if your car ran out of gas – with this little speaker.

“It was maybe an eight-inch speaker in it and there’s battery power. You put batteries in it. And if the batteries were just dead enough, the thing just sounded like this apocalyptic distortion that was so cool, and that’s the sound on the song and the record.”

Yesterday (July 4) marks the 25th anniversary of Foo Fighters.

On the band’s official Twitter account, the Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl addressed his fans saying that out of concern for their health, the band postponed dates of its Van tour. The Phoenix show was moved from April 12th to December 5th, Albuquerque was moved from April 14th to December 3rd, and Oklahoma City was moved from April 16th to December 1st. Later shows in April and May are still to be rescheduled. 

The singer mentioned his refusal to postpone a show after he broke his leg but stated that this is another thing. “The lights and stage are in the trucks, ready to go,” wrote Grohl. “The SECOND we are given the go-ahead, we’ll come tear s**t up like we always do Promise.”

Meanwhile, Elton John’s shows on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour from March 26th to May 2nd have been put off also. “This tough decision has been made with the safety and well-being of his fans put to the fore, at a time when health services are under increased pressure and with the concern that these gatherings risk accelerating the spread of the Coronavirus [COVID-19],” John stated.

An opportunity for this has risen just now with the resurfacing of the earliest-known live footage of the band, performing in Seattle in 1995. The band is shown performing at the Velvet Elvis Arts Lounge Theater on March 4th. The caption beneath the video on the FooFightersLive account explains that “it was believed among fans that a video existed, but it had never surfaced until now.”

The caption continues to clarify that “The original video had no audio due to a technical error so an also new secondary audio source has been dubbed over the video. Owing to time constraints making this 25th anniversary date the sync is not perfect, but it’s pretty close. Credits for the video and audio recording go to Travis Stanley and Ryan Fox respectively, whilst transferring and editing was carried out by Nick Serra, Rob Landis and FooFightersLive.com.”

It has now been a decade since the seemingly unstoppable Brit-pop band split. Noel Gallagher declared that he could no longer work with his brother, Liam, and the duo have since gone solo.

At the Foo Fighters’ show, it was pointed out that Taylor Hawkins had a photograph of the Gallagher brothers on one of his drums.

“One of these days we’ll get Oasis back. One of these days,” Hawkins exclaimed.

“We’re trying,” Grohl chimed in.

Hawkins agreed and then shouted out to the crowd: “We’re trying. Let’s sign a petition. Everyone here, okay?”

Grohl then asked the crowd: “How many people wanna see Oasis f***ing play a show?” The audience went wild, agreeing to sign the Foos’ contract to get the iconic band back together.

Will it happen? Who knows. But we know we’ll be signing if it does.

The long-running rock titans are due to come back to Reading and Leeds near the end of the month as the headline of the shows and the fans are guaranteed to enjoy a lot of familiar and loved songs. However, this time they will have the chance to influence the setlist and make sure they will not miss their favorite song.

In the official Twitter account of the band, the fans were asked to offer their preferred songs to be played. “So what songs do you wanna hear?” read the Tweet.

This is the 4^th time the beloved band headlines in Reading and Leeds. They first headlined the shows in 2002 with bands such as Guns and Roses, The Prodigy and The strokes. This year they will be joined by bands as Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Enter Shikari and A Day To Remember, The Distillers and Mayday Parade.

The Reading and Leeds festivals will both take place on August 23-25.
