Riff Raff follows a former criminal, whose ordinary life is thrown upside down when his family shows up for a long-awaited reckoning. Dito Montiel is directing the film, while John Pollono wrote the script. Signature Films and Canopy Media Partners are producing the project in collaboration with FirstGen Content.

When this crime comedy was initially announced, the Emmy winner Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus), Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman (The Meyerowitz Stories), and Gabrielle Union (Bring It On) were confirmed as its leads.

The ensemble expanded before the production kicks off in New Jersey, and it now includes Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live), Ed Harris (Westworld), Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), and Miles J. Harvey (American Vandal), along with Emanuela Postacchini (Robots) and Michael Angelo Covino (The Climb).

The SNL alum Davidson most recently appeared in Craig Gillespie’s Dumb Money, and we’ll next see him in Wizards! Ed Harris will next appear in Love Lies Bleeding alongside Kristen Stewart and Dave Franco. Pullman starred alongside Brie Larson in Lessons in Chemistry this fall, while Harvey played a supporting role in One Of Us Is Lying.

The new series, New Money, is being developed by Union and her I’ll Have Another productions banner at the premium cabler. The show hails from Sony Pictures Television. 

Union also teamed with former ESPN star Jemele Hill to bring us the half-hour comedy series about Black women with financial independence.

According to Deadline, the comedy is centered on “black women who have solidified their careers, achieved financial independence and moved past the awkwardness and money struggles of their twenties. Now firmly in their 30s, the ladies must deal with the repercussions their ‘new money’ brings, including hangers-on, false friends, unwanted media attention, and greedy relatives—while also navigating the treacherous world of dating.”

On board to write and executive produce the show alongside Union and Hill is Patrik-Ian Polk. 

Union’s most recent gig was in front of the camera in L.A.’s Finest, which was canceled after just a couple of seasons.

The news comes after police brutality and systemic racism has rocked the country and there’s been a public backlash against police shows on television.

Variety confirmed that The Bad Boys spinoff, which was supposed to air the first few episodes of the second season on Spectrum on June 8, has decided to push back the release to an unspecified date later in 2020.

The series stars Gabrielle Union as Syd Burnett, a police detective with a complicated past who relocates to Los Angeles from Miami and partners with Nancy McKenna (Jessica Alba), a working mom. The duo tackles the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles while not always following the rules and they become a solid team on the streets and in each other’s lives. Union’s Burnett is a revival of the character she played in the 2003 film Bad Boys II.

Less than a month ago, Fox acquired the broadcast rights to both seasons and was planning on airing them this fall. The 13-episode Season 1 is still set to air this fall on the network.

The series is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television and 2.0 Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures TV and Charter Communications. Union and Alba alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, Brandon Margolis, Brandon Sonnier, Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed, Pam Veasey, Doug Belgrad, Jeff Gaspin, Jeff Morrone and Anton Cropper executive produced.

Despite a major on-set accident and a less than favorable reception by critics, the cop show will return for another season. 

Series stars Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba confirmed the news Friday at the opening night of the 59th Monte Carlo Television Festival.

“We’re thrilled L.A.’s Finest has resonated with our subscribers in such a major way. When I first saw the pilot — a show about two strong women learning to trust and support each other and still getting into plenty of trouble — I knew I’d follow them anywhere,” said Katherine Pope, head of Spectrum Originals. “Kudos to Gabrielle and Jessica, as stars and executive producers, along with creators Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis and everyone else involved, for helping us launch our first original series and making the decision to greenlight a second season incredibly easy.”

“We are overwhelmed by the audience’s response to L.A.’s Finest,” said SPT President Jeff Frost. ”Gabrielle and Jessica are brilliant together and our incredible showrunners Brandon Sonnier, Brandon Margolis, and Pam Veasey did an amazing job of crafting an action-packed and riveting season one. The fourteenth season of the hugely successful talent competition will add Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough to the judge’s table. Taking over hosting of NBC’s flagship summer series is Terry Crews.

“One of the many secrets to the success and longevity of America’s Got Talent is its fearless drive to reinvent itself,” Meredith Ahr, president, alternative and reality group at NBC Entertainment, said Monday in a statement. “The next evolution of the format brings in fresh expert eyes to join Simon and Howie on the panel. Gabrielle and Julianne are two of the most aspirational women in the business, on top of being electric entertainers with talent across disciplines. I am excited to see how their knowledge, compassion and sheer joy enhance the experience for acts and viewers alike. As their partner in crime, host Terry Crews will continue to light up the stage with his quick wit and unending charm.”

Union and Hough are taking over judging duties from Heidi Klum and Mel B. They will join executive producer Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel. 

This is the first change to the judges in three years. Tyra Banks served as host for two seasons.
