Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies serves as the prequel series to the iconic 70s musical Grease and chronicles the foundation of Rydell High’s first female high school clique the Pink Ladies. The series premiered on April 6, and its leading ensemble cast included Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, Tricia Fukuhara, Shanel Bailey, and Madison Thompson.

Creator Annabel Oakes described the decision to remove the series from the streaming service as a “particularly brutal move”, but thanked the show’s beautiful fans for all of their support.

“People are already sending messages and videos about how much the show meant to them and I absolutely love hearing and seeing them. The #1 thing we would love is for you to watch the show before it comes down,” wrote Oakes on Instagram.

In addition to Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Paramount+ also canceled Star Trek: Prodigy, Queen of the Universe, and The Game. All four shows will be removed from their streaming service as a content write-down.

The Grease prequel is set four years before Sandy and Danny’s relationship at Rydell High. Four outcast girls try to make their own kind of fun and end up sparking a moral panic that will change the high school. The musical comedy will be an hour-long with 10 episodes and it will highlight the rise of the original four Pink Ladies—Rizzo, Jan, Marty, and Frenchy before they had to deal with Sandy.

The series is written and executive produced by Annabel Oakes. Marty Bowen and Erik Feig, who are working on the Grease prequel movie Summer Lovin, will also executive produce.

Grease starring John Travolta and Oliva Newton-John was the highest-grossing live-action musical of all time before the Disney reboots of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. In 2016, there was a live staging on Fox starring Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens, which won five Emmys.

There are expected to be new songs for the Pink Ladies, but there’s a chance there will be some favorites from the original musical.
