HBO Max’s upcoming Green Lantern series appears to have found its Alan Scott/Green Lantern. According to Deadline, Treadstone star Jeremy Irvine is considered a favorite for the role and is currently in talks to join the project.

Alan Scott is the original Green Lantern in DC Comics, first appearing in 1940 as a superhero who fights evil with the help of a ring that gives him magical powers. The character had multiple reincarnations since then, with the latest being from the early 2000s.

The most recent version of Alan Scott sees the character living on Earth-Two as a young, gay man and an owner of a big media company, GBC production. He gets his power from “the Green,” which is a mystical entity that “connects all plant life on Earth.” Scott is considered to be among the most important gay characters in the DC Universe.

Irvine’s most notable works include appearances in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, The Last Full Measure, and in upcoming Terence Davies’ biographical flick Benediction. He also starred as a lead in Bourne television spinoff Treadstone before the show was canceled after one season.

Green Lantern TV series already cast Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story) as Guy Gardner. Besides Gardner and Scott, the series is expected to feature several more Green Lanterns.

American Horror Story‘s Finn Wittrock will be leading HBO Max’s upcoming Green Lantern series.

Wittrock, the first actor cast in the show, will play Guy Gardner, a “hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism”, as reported by Variety.

The series, which is based on the DC Comics property, was first announced as being in development in 2019 and ordered to series last year. The story starts on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and goes to 1984 with alpha male Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. Joining them will be other Lanterns from the comic book favorites as well as never-before-seen heroes.

10 episodes of Green Lantern have been ordered by HBO Max. The series is co-written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Marc Guggenheim, and Grahame-Smith serves as showrunner. Also executive producing are Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and David Katzenberg. Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi are co-executive producing.

Wittrock is best known for his collaborations with Ryan Murphy, starring in multiple seasons of American Horror Story as well as American Crime Story, and Ratched. His other credits include The Big Short, The Last Black Man in San Fransisco, If Beale Street Could Talk, and Unbroken.
