After a long hiatus from the big screen, Rick Moranis is back. Deadline reports that the comedian will return to one of his most recognizable franchises and will star in the new sequel of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Disney is producing the sequel for theatrical release.

The movie will center on Wayne Szalinski’s son who, in his attempts to be a scientist like his father, copies one of his blunders and accidentally shrinks his kids. The movie will be led by Josh Gad and will be directed by Joe Johnston, who also directed the original movie.

Apart from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Moranis is known for movies such as Little Shop of Horrors, Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, The Flintstones and Parenthood. He is also an SCTV alum. Moranis has stepped away from acting in 1997 and concentrated on raising his children. However, he continued to do voice over in films such as Brother Bear and The Animated Adventures of Bob & Doug McKenzie.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids has already spawned a sequel – Honey, I Blew Up the Kid and a direct to video movie, Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. The first two movies earned $281 million combined.
