Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) is coming on board as a director of this untitled project, while Rob Lieber wrote the script. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Deadline reports this film will “mark a continuation of the mythology of the original franchise.”

This sequel will also mark the first time Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio meet on screen in The Karate Kid universe. Macchio played Daniel LaRusso, the karate champion who trained under Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi in the original The Karate Kid film from 1984. Chan appeared in the 2010 remake as the mentor of Jaden Smith’s character, molded after Mr. Miyagi.

Entwistle’s upcoming sixth film in The Karate Kid franchise won’t mark the first modern-day project set in this universe. The spin-off series Cobra Kai is currently running on Netflix, and it sees Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence reviving their rivalry decades after the events of the original film.

This amazing foursome is joining Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon, who are set to voice the Ninja Turtles. The star-studded voice cast will also include Ayo Edebiri, Hannibal Buress, Rose Byrne, Post Malone, Paul Rudd, Maya Rudolph, Natasia Demetriou, and Giancarlo Esposito.

Mutant Mayhem is being developed in collaboration between Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon Movies, and Point Grey Productions, and Paramount Animation’s president Ramsey Naito can’t wait to share it with the world.

“We are beyond thrilled by this world-class cast we’ve assembled to bring these iconic, beloved characters to life in a new chapter of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe. This really sets a new bar for this globally celebrated franchise, and we can’t wait to show audiences this film,” said Naito in a statement.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will see Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael trying to set out into the world and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. It was directed by Jeff Rowe, and it’s set to hit the theatres on August 4.
