]]>Dubbed The Trench, the film is set around the underwater kingdom with the same name in the Aquaman franchise. The new film will be co-produced by Peter Safran, a man known for his role in the Conjuring Universe. Aquaman’s director James Wan, will be the second producer.
Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald will write the movie’s script and will feature a totally new cast. That means Jason Momoa, Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, and all the other actors credited for Aquaman’s success will be conspicuously missing.
The Trench is a result of Walter Hamada taking over the DC Universe. While working in the Conjuring franchise, he was famous for turning fan-favorite scenes into movies. Remember the scary doll from The Conjuring? Hamada turned it into Annabelle. You liked the creepy nun in the Conjuring 2? She got her own film.
The Trench in Aquaman became a popular scene after it featured two of the film’s stars descended beneath the ocean as they were pursued by backlit CGI characters. The Trench will return to show what happens in the under-world, only this time with no super heroes.

]]>The James Wan’s superhero film has now amassed over $482.8 million in more than 70 territories. China led that pack this weekend with $23.3 million. Korea followed with $9.9 million while France, Brazil, and Germany contributed $15 million in total.
Locally, the film hasn’t been the best-selling DC movie. Justice League grossed $93.8 million in its first three days at the US box office. By contrast, Aquaman earned $67.4 million. The Jason Momoa led superhero movie is, however, still popular in theaters. At a time when Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns are also competing for the same audience, Aquaman has been doing well both locally and internationally.
While Aquaman has been performing splendidly in China, it’s also having to compete with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, grossing $26.1 million in its opening weekend. The animated film has since then made more than $120 million, well below Aquaman.
Bumblebee, which was aired in 38 territories when it first came out, earned $21 million in its first weekend. It went on to gross $31 million. Mary Poppins Returns, debuted for $20.3 million in 17 territories before earning over $51 million in the next two weeks.
