Shout It Out Loud, a biopic centered on legendary American rock band KISS, seems to be progressing really well. According to the group’s frontman Paul Stanley, the movie is “definitely happening” and has “a really good script.”

Stanley detailed the biopic in a recent interview with Download: RELOADED ahead of his band’s appearance at this year’s Download Festival. He shared that the group didn’t want to greenlight the project until they “felt comfortable.”

“You get once chance to do it, and I would rather not do it than do it … poorly,” Stanley said before praising the biopic’s director Joachim Ronning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil). “He’s not some hack—he knows how to make movies. It should be great,” he added.

Stanley also revealed that the casting process for the movie still hasn’t begun but that the producers are looking for “actors in their early 20s” to portray him and his bandmates.

You can check out Stanley’s interview in full in the video below.

Shout It Out Loud will be released by Netflix after the streamer won the bidding war for the movie in early April. The story will follow Stanley and bassist Gene Simmons from the early days of their friendship to the formative years of KISS. The biopic is expected to have significant input from the band and will feature some of their biggest hits.

Gene Simmons has revealed the one KISS song he hates performing.

It’s not uncommon for artists to grow out of their early sound and consequently develop a strong dislike for their early material. Radiohead has played Creep a small handful of times in the last 10 years, despite the song being one of the band’s best-known tracks. Artists change and develop but their old songs stay the same and continue to haunt them through their admiring fans.

For KISS’ Gene Simmons, the song he can’t stand is one of the band’s biggest hits “I Was Made For Lovin’ You.” He named the track when Ok! Magazine asked him to name a KISS song he doesn’t like despite its popularity.

Simmons admitted when bandmate Paul Stanley introduced the track, he liked the opening lyrics but was disappointed with the catchy chorus and melody. He says his reaction at the time was:

“You’re killing me. I’m going to sing like my grandmother?”

“I hate playing that song today,” he continued. “Stadiums full of people jumping up and down like biblical locusts. They go nuts jumping up and down and I’m going, ‘Do, do, do, do, do, do, kill me now.’

“Still to this day I hate that song.”
