]]>The decision was a rather simple one for the network, considering that Late Night With Seth Meyers is one of the most popular late-night talk shows on television. It has a total of 1.05 million average viewers, which ranks at no. 1 in the 12:35 a.m. time slot.
Katie Hockmeyer, NBC’s executive VP of late-night programming, confirmed the news via statement and called Meyers “a rare talent.” “Seth is a brilliant stand-up comedian, interviewer, and political commentator,” – Hockmeyer added. “His voice matters more now than ever.”
The new contract will see Meyers tie David Letterman as the second longest-tenured host of Late Night. Conan O’Brien holds the record, hosting the talk show for 16 years.
Seth Meyers took over this hosting gig in 2014, succeeding Jimmy Fallon. Meyers’ iteration of the talk show received mixed reception early in his tenure, but the reviews and the response of the audience have been much more positive as the show evolved.
Late Night With Seth Meyers received four Emmy Awards nominations during its time on television and has a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Talk Show from 2020.
