The L Word is without a doubt one of the most ground-breaking LGBT shows of the 2000s, and it seems we’re finally getting more of it as Showtime is currently working on a sequel series of this successful project.

The original series followed the lives of a close-knit group of gay women experiencing love and heartbreak in Los Angeles.

Showtime recently ordered an eight-episode follow-up series and the president of entertainment at this network, Gary Levine, is very optimistic about its future.

“This revered show was both entertaining and impactful when it originally ran on Showtime, and we are confident that our new version will do that and more in 2019,” said Levine.

Marja-Lewis Ryan, who made her directorial debut with Netflix drama 6 Balloons, will serve as showrunner of the upcoming L Word sequel. She’ll also executive produce this project, alongside Ilene Chaiken who co-created the original series with Michele Abbott and Kathy Greenberg.

Stars Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey already agreed to come back and reprise the most iconic roles of their careers. They’ll also serve as executive producers of the L World follow-up, which should premiere later this year.
