It is Sundance Film Festival director John Cooper’s last year as the helm, but it looks like he’s done a lot to achieve the festival’s goal of gender parity.

The 35th incarnation of the indie film festival is set to run January 23–February 2 in Park City, but first the highly anticipated lineup.

The lineup of 118 feature films was announced Wednesday and it is packed with features by female filmmakers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this year’s lineup features 44 first-time feature filmmakers. Of the 65 directors in the four competition categories, comprising 56 films, 46 percent are women, 38 percent are people of color and 12 percent are LGBTQ+.

“We have lots of returning alumni this year, which really says a lot about the community that we create,” said festival director John Cooper, also explaining that with newcomers, “We’re seeing a lot more of how they tell a story, even if it’s an old story, with a lot more creativity.”

He added: “There is no Michael Jackson film this year. Not like last year with Leaving Neverland. That was truly controversial. But there will be films that will shock people and change their perception.”

Kicking off the festival is a Taylor Swift documentary. Other titles announced in the Premieres section include Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Downhill, a remake of Golden Globe-nominated Swedish dramedy Force Majeure; Worth, with Michael Keaton as 9/11 Fund appointee Kenneth Feinberg; Four Good Days, starring Glenn Close and Mila Kunis; and Julie Taymor’s The Glorias, featuring Julianne Moore and Alicia Vikander as activist Gloria Steinem.

Queen & Adam Lambert, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, One Republic, H.E.R. and Carole King are the 2019 Global Citizen Festival headliners!

The husband-wife duo Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness will return to host the eighth annual festival. They will be joined by Matt Bomer, Rachel Brosnahan, Elvis Duran, Taraji P. Henson, Rami Malek, Bill Nye, Joy Reid and Forest Whitaker who will all appear as cohosts. In addition, special guest performances will be given by French Montana, Tony winner Ben Platt and Jon Batiste & Stay Human.

According to the organizers, the festival “encourages global citizens to power the movement to end extreme poverty, calling on world leaders to fight diseases including HIV and AIDS and polio, empower women and girls, combat plastic pollution and provide quality education for all.”

“After next year we will have only 10 short years to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals,” Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans said in a statement. “The policies and progress that we make this year, and into 2020, will determine whether we successfully eradicate extreme poverty by 2030, and failure is not an option for the world’s poor. We are thrilled to have such an iconic lineup of artists, hosts, and partners join us at such a pivotal moment for this fight as we ask governments and world leaders to take action and end extreme poverty.”

The Festival will take place in Central Park in New York City on September 28.

More news from the Cannes front.

The lineup is here and we are excited! The Cannes Film Festival’s artistic director Thierry Frémaux and Cannes president Pierre Lescure unveiled the festival’s lineup Thursday morning from the UGC Normandie theater on Paris’ Champs-Elysées.

The lineup of the annual festival includes some obvious selections such as expected names such as Pedro Almodóvar (Pain & Glory), Terrence Malick (A Hidden Life) and Ken Loach (Sorry We Missed You). However, the official selection also includes an impressive 13 female filmmakers out of the 47 films that were announced. Noticeably absent from the list is Quentin Tarantino’s anticipated Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is still in editing. All that remains to be seen is whether the project, which is still in editing, be completed in time for the festival.

Frémaux and Lescure also confirmed that the festival will not to allow any Netflix films into competition.

The Bud Light Super Bowl Music Fest lineup has been announced.

A stellar lineup for this year’s Super Bowl Music Fest has been assembled and we’re excited! The three-night music fest, which runs January 31st through February 2nd, is one of the most anticipated music events in the days leading up to the NFL’s biggest night.

The Rolling Stone confirms that Aerosmith, Ludacris and Bruno Mars will be among the artists performing at the festival.

Hip-hop will be on display on the festival’s first night with hometown artists Ludacris, Migos, Lil Yachty, Lil Baby, Metro Boomin’ and Lil Jon taking the stag. February 1st will feature Aerosmith with Post Malone scheduled to join the set. The last day will see performances by Bruno Mars and Cardi B.

Some artists have chosen to boycott events related to the Super Bowl, but not Lil Jon. He spoke with Atlanta Journal Constitution about the event that will take place at Atlanta’s State Farm, Arena.

“It’s our hometown, we gotta. It’s rare when we’re able to showcase what we love about this city and showcase our city. I think it’s more about the city than it is anything else. The Super Bowl is the Super Bowl, but this is the city we’ve grown up in, we launched our careers in and the city we live in. It’s about showcasing everything we love about our city.”
