If you were looking forward to watching the Love, Simon series on Disney’s recently launched streaming service, it seems like you’ll have to sign up for Hulu instead as the spin-off found a new home there.

According to Variety, sources close to the studio, this show was moved to a new platform after the masterminds behind Disney+ came to a conclusion it won’t fit with the family-friendly content they’re trying to curate on this streaming platform.

Love, Simon isn’t even the first show to experience a Disney+ to Hulu relocation. The same thing also happened to High Fidelity starring Zoë Kravitz, another show based on a movie. As Hulu already aired several shows with young adult protagonists, it seemed like an appropriate home for this one.

The half-hour comedy also got a new name – Love, Victor – after the titular character played by Michael Cimino, a new student at Creekwood High School, who’s on his own journey of self-discovery. The series will premiere in June, as a way of celebrating Pride Month.

The Love, Simon series has cast its lead.

Disney’s new streaming series is producing a series that is a spin-off of the 2018 movie which starred Nick Robinson.

The actor played the titular high school student who was trying to juggle being outed by an anonymous figure, as well as figuring out the identity of the person he is chatting with online.

The series will have the same feel as the film as the movie’s co-writers, Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, will serve as co-showrunners.

Training Day actor, Michael Cimino, has been cast as Creekwood High School’s new student, Victor, who is on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation. When it all seems too much, he reaches out to Simon [Robinson] to help him navigate the ups and downs of high school.

“We could not be more excited to be making Love, Simon for Disney+,” Aptaker and Berger said. “Writing Love, Simon was one of the most profound and enjoyable experiences of our careers to date and we are beyond thrilled that we get to revisit this world and tell the story of Victor, a brand new Creekwood student, and his family and friends. We have a phenomenal group of writers with tremendously personal connections to the material crafting our episodes, and have assembled a dream team cast and crew to bring these stories to life, and cannot wait to share what we’re working on with the world.”

Ana Ortiz, James Martinez, and Isabella Ferreira also star.
