Adding a roster of former Academy Award winners to the lineup isn’t a coincidence, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They report that the upcoming ceremony will return to the “Field of Dreams-like format” from 2009, inviting five former acting winners to introduce the five current nominees in their respective categories.

The 96th Academy Awards will take place on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting the show for the fourth time.

This prequel film will explore the origin story of noise-sensitive monsters and explain “why our world went quiet.” The trailer opens with archival footage of the characters we met in the first two films, before introducing us to a group of new heroes, fighting for survival after the monsters take over New York.

Nyong’o told Entertainment Weekly that the character dynamic will be much different this time around because the story doesn’t center on a family determined to stick together.

“We have these disparate individuals who collide into each other’s lives, and it is at a very pivotal time for the world. How do they negotiate survival together? What we get is really interesting chemistry in the characters that meet each other along the way,” she explained.

Nyong’o will play Sam, a woman whose day trip to New York City turns into a nightmare, and she’ll be joined by Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn, Hereditary’s Alex Wolff, and Djimon Hounsou, reprising his role from A Quiet Place Part II. A Quiet Place: Day One will open in theaters on June 28.

Festival directors Mariëtte Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian said they’re happy and proud to see the Black Panther star accept their invitation to be the jury president of the upcoming Berlinale.

“Lupita Nyong’o embodies what we like in cinema: versatility in embracing different projects, addressing different audiences, and consistency to one idea that is quite recognizable in her characters, as diverse as they may look,” said the duo in a statement.

Nyong’o said she’s deeply honored to serve as the president of the international jury of the Berlin Film Festival, and added she’s looking forward to celebrating and recognizing the outstanding work of filmmakers from around the world.

The Oscar-winning star of 12 Years a Slave has several promising projects on the way, including the horror sequel A Quiet Place: Day One and the adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah. 

The 2024 Berlin Film Festival will take place from February 15–25, 2024, and the rest of the jury members are yet to be announced.

The Apple TV+ series will be co-created, co-written, and directed by Honey Boy’s Alma Har’el. Dre Ryan (The Man In The High Castle) serves as co-creator and co-writer. 

The novel is set in the 1960s and takes place in Baltimore. It follows housewife Madeline “Maddie” Schwartz (Portman), who starts working as an investigative journalist after helping the police solve a murder. While looking for the next story, Maddie gets involved in a case of a missing person, an African-American mother of two boys named Cleo Sherwood (Nyong’o), whose body gets discovered in the city park.

Lady in the Lake will be the first lead role in a series for Natalie Portman. Her previous television appearances include voice work for The Simpsons and a guest role on TBS’s sitcom Angie Tribeca.

Lupita Nyong’o portrayed Ayira in MTV’s Shuga and lent her voice to Maz Kanata in the animation series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny and Star Wars: Rebels. Nyong’o was previously attached to star in HBO’s adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Americanah but had to leave the project due to scheduling conflict.

Us tells the story of a couple who are looking forward to an idyllic summer getaway with their kids. Their vacation turns into a total nightmare after they discover silhouettes of four mysterious figures in their beach house, who look exactly like them.

2019 addition of South by Southwest will take place between March 9-17 in Austin, Texas and the rest of film line-up is yet to be announced.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced its 2019 Walk of Fame recipients and the Raging Bull actor has finally cracked the list.

He will be joined in the film category by actresses Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Gena Rowlands, and Kristen Bell, as well as actors Alan Arkin and Daniel Craig, and filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Tyler Perry.

In the television category, Mandy Moore, Terrence Howard, Lucy Liu, Dianne Wiest, Guy Fieri, Candice Bergen, and Alvin and the Chipmunks will be honored.

Rounding out the music category will be Pink, Dolly Parton, Faith Hill, Michael Bublé, and Idina Menzel.

Born a Crime has now been given a director, with South African, Liesl Tommy, set to helm the project.

Liesl has expressed much excitement about the film, saying, “When I came home to Cape Town for Christmas in 2016, I gave my father, my brother and uncles Trevor’s book as Christmas presents. I loved it so much and thought they’d love it too because of the combination of humor and love of family with the Apartheid backdrop. Never in a million years did I imagine I’d one day be directing the film of that book. I’ve spent many years working all over the world, to finally get to come home to South Africa to shoot a project like this is a dream come true.”
