]]>Judy Craymer, the producer behind the original stage production of Mamma Mia! and the 2008 and 2018 film adaptations told Daily Mail that a third installment may be coming sooner than we think.
Prior to the coronavirus, Craymer was planning the third film. “I was meant to have been getting on with that, in my head, during these months. But then I got hit with COVID fog,” Craymer told Daily Mail. “I think one day there will be another film because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see. I know Universal would like me to do it.”
The musical is set to pop group ABBA’s songs and it tells the story of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) and her mother Donna (Meryl Streep). While Sophie’s wedding day is soon approaching, questions about her paternity begin to happen and she invites three of Donna’s past relationships (Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgård) to find out who her father is.
The 2018 sequel takes a deeper look into Donna’s backstory with Lily James playing her and it explores her relationships with the men and the rise of her band, Donna and the Dynamos.
A threequel has yet to be announced, but Craymer said it could include new music from ABBA.
Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Gere We Go Again were huge hits at the box office, grossing almost $400 million worldwide.
