This project about a young bookworm who uses telekinesis to overcome the obstacles she’s dealing with at school and at home will be directed by Matthew Warchus. He was previously in charge of helming the stage musical this project is based on, which was rewarded with multiple Tony and Laurence Olivier Awards.
Original playwright Dennis Kelly will also return, and write the script for this exciting movie adaptation. Music and lyrics by Tim Minchin will also be featured in this highly-anticipated musical, set to premiere on Netflix after a theatrical run in the UK.

]]>Sony Pictures and Netflix are partnering on a film adaptation of the story about a child prodigy with magic powers who is mistreated by her parents and cruel headmistress but forms a strong bond with her teacher Miss Honey.
This time, however, the film will be adapted from Matilda the musical. According to The Hollywood Reporter which was first to report the news the film will get a full theatrical release before premiering on the steamer.
The film adaptation will be helmed by Matthew Warchus. Dennis Kelly will write the screenplay
Representatives from Sony and Netflix declined to comment.

]]>Matilda hit movie theatres in 1996. It has since received a Broadway adaptation and is one of our go-to comfort films on Netflix. Now, almost 25 years after the original, DeVito is toying with the idea of making a sequel. He even wants to reprise his role as the despicable Mr. Wormwood.
“I always wanted to do Matilda 2, but when the kid was still a kid,” DeVito told ComicBook. “But that was like 20 years ago, 25 years ago. Maybe Matilda has a kid and we can do something that, I don’t know.”
DeVito did not make any comment about whether a sequel is actually in the works or whether it is currently just a pipedream.
In other Roald Dahl news, Netflix is planning on rebooting some of Dahl’s most classic works. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits, and Matilda are on the list of stories to receive a Netflix adaptation.

]]>Get ready to relive a huge part of your childhood because Netflix has snatched up the rights to a library of Roald Dahl titles. The streaming giant already announced that new versions of several of Dahl’s classics are heading our way.
“Our mission, which is purposefully lofty, is for as many children as possible around the world to experience the unique magic and positive message of Roald Dahl’s stories,” said Roald Dahl’s widow, Felicity Dahl, in a statement. “This partnership with Netflix marks a significant move toward making that possible and is an incredibly exciting new chapter for the Roald Dahl Story Company. Roald would, I know, be thrilled.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, the titled in development as part of the deal include: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG, The Twits, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, George’s Marvellous Medicine, Boy – Tales of Childhood, Going Solo, The Enormous Crocodile, The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me, Henry Sugar, Billy and the Minpins, The Magic Finger, Esio Trot, Dirty Beasts, and Rhyme Stew.
“Immersing ourselves in the extraordinary worlds of Roald Dahl stories has been an honor and a massive amount of fun, and we are grateful for the trust the Roald Dahl Story Company and the Dahl family have placed in our team to deliver more moments of shared joy to families around the world,” Melissa Cobb, vice president of kids & family content at Netflix, said in a statement. “We have great creative ambition to reimagine the journeys of so many treasured Dahl characters in fresh, contemporary ways with the highest quality animation and production values.”
Production is set to begin in 2019.
