]]>Met Gala’s theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” paid tribute to one of the most prominent designers in contemporary fashion history, and celebrities were asked to dress “in honor of Karl”. They certainly understood the assignment this time around and hit the red carpet in a wide variety of black and white outfits that included pearls and starched collars.
Dua Lipa, who co-chaired the gala alongside Roger Federer, Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, and Anna Wintour, hit the red carpet in a vintage ivory wool tweed Chanel gown from 1992. Many celebrities in attendance looked positively bridal in their white dresses, from Anne Hathaway and Rihanna to Kim Kardashian and Gisele Bündchen.
Black and black-white outfits were also all the rage at the gala, and Lily Collins, Cardi B, Lizzo, and Kendall Jenner were only some of the celebrities wearing them. Jessica Chastain took things up a notch by dying her hair platinum blonde and wearing shades just like Lagerfeld’s.
Doja Cat and Jared Leto found the most unique way to pay homage to the late designer—hitting the red carpet dressed as his beloved cat Choupette. ]]>According to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s official press release, the Costume Institute’s next exhibition will spotlight the German-born designer’s unique working methodology and focus on his “stylistic vocabulary as expressed in aesthetic themes that appear time and again in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019.”
Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who has led the event since 1995, will return as co-chair and she’ll be in pretty good company. The list of this year’s co-chairs will also include the Grammy-winning singer Dua Lipa, the tennis legend Roger Federer, the Oscar winner Penélope Cruz, and I May Destroy You breakout star Michaela Coel.
This year’s Met Gala will take place on May 1 and the headlining performer is yet to be announced. The invitation-only event is one of the most exclusive in the entire world with tickets costing $35,000, and all the proceeds go towards funding the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

]]>Kardashian borrowed the dress that Monroe famously wore in 1962 to sing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy from Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Many were worried about the state of the dress following the Met Gala on May 2, and it seemed their fear was justified after the Instagram account for the Marilyn Monroe Collection posted before and after photos, showing the signs of wear and tear.
The Skims founder discussed her Met Gala experience during a recent appearance on the Today show and explained she worked closely with Ripley’s and had handlers to put a dress on her.
“It was such a process. I showed up to the red carpet in a robe and slippers and I put the dress on at the bottom of the carpet, went up the stairs… I probably had it on for three minutes, four minutes, and then I changed at the top of the stairs,” explained Kardashian.
Days before the reality star decided to speak up, Ripley’s released their own statement, debunking the allegations that the damage to the dress was caused by Kardashian.

“What we’re all, I think, most hoping to see is something that is outrageous, something that is fun, tongue-in-cheek. So my guess is that we’re going to see a very large amount of feathers on the red carpet,” said Wintour.
