According to Sharp Objects’ show runner, Marti Noxon, a second season could in fact happen.

During a keynote address at SXSW’s film conference, Noxon talked about Sharp Objects and said, “Maybe there will be a sequel and we’ll get to find out more about Adora and Camille’s sister.” She added, “Gillian [Flynn] and I have some thoughts on it.”

Back in August 2018, Noxon did, however, tell The Hollywood Reporter that a second season would be technically hard to pull off. 

“It’s off the table in terms of, people are going on to their next projects, and it was a pretty hard A-team to assemble. It’s not hard to imagine from a story standpoint, because obviously, we love these characters, but from a technical standpoint it seems like a long shot.”

The HBO limited series was adapted from Flynn’s novel of the same name and executive produced by Noxon. The series starred Amy Adams and was directed by Jean-Marc Vallée.

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Ava DuVernay is directing a five-part Netflix series on Central Park Five a group of Harlem teenagers convicted for a rape they did not commit. The drama will encompass the time between 1989 when the boys were first questioned to 2014 when they were exonerated.

Felicity Huffman, Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight) and Jovan Adept (Fences) have been tapped to star in limited series written by DuVernay. They join Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, and John Leguizamo.

According to Variety, Huffman will play Linda Fairstein, the head of the Manhattan district attorney’s sex crimes office during the case, Jerome will play Korey Wise, one of the teens who was wrongfully charged as an adult in the case and sentenced for twelve years, and Adepo will play Antron McCray, another wrongfully convicted teen, who was released after serving six years in prison. 

“I had an extraordinary experience working with Netflix on 13th and am overjoyed to continue this exploration of the criminal justice system as a narrative project with Cindy Holland and the team there,” DuVernay said in a statement. “The story of the men known as Central Park Five has riveted me for more than two decades. In their journey, we witness five innocent young men of color who were met with injustice at every turn – from coerced confessions to unjust incarceration to public calls for their execution by the man who would go on to be the President of the United States.”
