]]>Lionsgate’s new deal with Hasbro is reportedly worth $375 million, and it adds 6,500 film and television titles to Lionsgate’s library. Some of the projects covered by this acquisition are ABC’s TV franchise The Rookie, the acclaimed Showtime series Yellowjackets, and the long-running Discovery series Naked & Afraid.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed the deal and said it’s the latest step in executing their strategy and strengthening their studio business.
“As we’ve conducted our integration planning, our analysis has reaffirmed our conviction that eOne will be a valuable and highly accretive addition to our business. We are pleased to welcome eOne’s talented group of employees to our Lionsgate family,” said Feltheimer in a press release.
This transaction also includes film development rights to Hasbro’s beloved Monopoly brand. It’s too early to tell what a Monopoly movie would actually look like because Lionsgate didn’t start developing this project just yet, but given the success of Barbie and The Lego Movie, they might be tempted to toy with this idea pretty soon.

A few directors have attempted to turn the game into a movie numerous times in the past. Most recently, Ridley Scott attempted to make a movie out of it in 2008 but the project failed and Lionsgate purchased its production rights.
In the meantime, Hart is working on The Secret life of Pets 2 while the director is tied up to New Line’s Shaft, a movie that stars Samuel L Jackson.
