NBC is developing a Finding Forrester drama series based on the film that starred the late Sean Connery about a black teenager (Rob Brown), a gifted writer and basketball player, who lands a scholarship to a private high school and befriends a reclusive writer (Connery).

According to Variety, the television series version will explore “the unique bond between two gifted black writers: a homeless 16-year-old orphan who leverages his basketball skills to hustle his way into an ultra-competitive elite boarding school, and a reclusive lesbian author whose career was ruined by a public scandal.”

The project hails from The Chi co-executive producers TJ Brady and Rasheed Newson, who will pen the series. Tim Story is attached to direct and will also executive produce, alongside Brady and Newson. 

Brady and Newson’s other credits include shows such as Shooter, The 100, Army Wives, and Animal Kingdom.

Penned by Lloyd and Vali Chandrasekaran, the series follows three men—two of them played by Grammer and Baldwin—who were roommates in their 20s until their warring egos drove them apart. They reunite decades later for one more run at the lives they’ve always wanted. The third cast member will be announced at a later date. 

The still-untitled series will be Baldwin’s first major television role since 30 Rock. He’s currently a regular on Saturday Night Live portraying President Donald Trump. 

Grammer is best known for his roles on Cheers and Frasier.

The series is slated for the 2021-22 season.

The network has ordered an untitled series from The Office alum. The half-hour series will be written, directed and executive produced by B. J. Novak. 

According to Deadline, the untitled series will use the “boldest issues of our times as a jumping-off point to tell singular, character-driven stories about the world we live in today.”

“Thrilled, excited, humbled — these are the words in every press release, and I can’t believe how much I actually mean them,” Novak said in a statement. “This is my dream show, and FX is the dream place to make it. When I brought it to FX, I wondered if it went too far, and they told me, you can go further. I can’t wait to get started.”

“We have been admirers of BJ Novak for a long time,” said Nick Grad, president of original programming at FX Entertainment. “We loved his creative twist on the anthology format, and he delivered on two phenomenal episodes. We are looking forward to going into production on the rest of the season and supporting BJ’s ambitious vision for this project.”

The series has already started filming with each episode featuring a completely different cast.

HBO has ordered 10 episodes of the yet to be titled comedy. According to Variety, the show will explore a dark mentorship that forms between a Las Vegas diva (Smart) and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old.

“I am so thrilled to be making this show with our incredible partners at HBO Max and Universal TV, and it is a dream to write for the incomparable Jean Smart,” said Downs in a statement. “It is an honor and a privilege to craft and portray complex, female characters. For far too long, male voices dominated the space, both on-and-off screen, and thankfully that has finally changed. Jack Gleeson, best known for playing King Joffrey on HBO’s critically acclaimed drama, has been cast in the BBC comedy Out of Her Mind from comedian Sara Pascoe. Also on board is Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as executive producers. The series will be distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

The six-part series will explore what it takes to survive heartbreak and familial dysfunction, according to BBC.

Sandra Oh has been tapped to star in a new dramedy from Amanda Peet for Netflix. Oh will lead the new series titled The Chair. 

The six-episode half-hour series is “centered around the Chair of an English department at a major university,” played by Oh according to the streamer. Also attached to star is Jay Duplass in an unspecified role.

Oh will also executive produce alongside series writer and showrunner Peet. Peet co-wrote the script alongside screenwriter Annie Julia Wyman. 

Peet is best known for her acting roles including Brockmire, The Romanoffs as well as roles in Saving Silverman, Something’s Gotta Give, and Jack & Jill.

Freedom announced that it has picked up the Jessica Biel produced series Friday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

Last Summer hails from writer and executive producer Bert V. Royal. Max Winkler directed the pilot. Also producing in addition to Biel is Michelle Purple under their Iron Ocean Productions banner.

According to Variety, the series is a thriller, which takes place over three summers in a small Texas town when a beautiful and popular teen, Kate, goes missing. Then, seemingly unrelated, a girl named Jeanette goes from being a sweet and awkward outlier to the most popular girl in town and, by ’95, the most despised person in America.

Last Summer stars Chiara Aurelia, Mika Abdalla, Michael Landes, Froy Gutierrez, Harley Quinn Smith, Allius Barnes, Blake Lee, Nathaniel Ashton, and Brooklyn Sudano.

Martin and Short are teaming up again, this time for a new still-untitled series from co-creators Martin and John Hoffman. Hulu announced that it gave the project a straight-to-series order Friday during the Television Critics Association presentations.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the series is said to follow three strangers who share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one.

In addition to starring, Martin and Short are set to executive produce alongside This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman.

History’s hit series has scored a prequel series with original creator Michael Hirst. According to multiple outlets, the streaming giant has ordered 24 episodes of the new series — well before the original is set to debut its sixth and final season December 4. 

Vikings: Valhalla is set 100 years after the original and “concludes and dramatizes the adventures of the most famous Vikings who ever lived — Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada, and the Norman King William the Conqueror (also a Viking descendant). These men and women will blaze new paths as they fight for survival in an ever-changing and evolving Europe. This is the explosive next chapter of the Vikings legend.”
