]]>Roma ended up beating the likes of several awards season front-runners, including The Favourite and A Star Is Born to win best picture award at the ceremony. It also scored a victory in additional three categories: best director, best cinematography and best non-English speaking film.
Roma is Cuarón’s first film taking place in his home country of since Y Tu Mamá También, which came out in 2001 and led to his first Oscar nod. It’s been described as “the most powerfully personal story of his career” and received dozens of awards nominations since its release.
