Peaky Blinders director Anthony Byrne has finally given an update on when season six may resume filming. And it’s not looking good.

The popular gangster saga was due to wrap up filming around about now. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, filming was not able to take place in March as planned. Speaking with Digitial Spy, Byrne has revealed that filming most likely will not resume until 2021.

“In an ideal world it would be great to be prepping again towards the end of the year with a view to start shooting early next year,” he revealed. “That feels achievable, whether that’s true or not, I have no idea. If we did start shooting in January (2021), we wouldn’t finish until May or June and then it’s another 6 months of editing.”

If this is the case, then season six will be released at the end of 2021 at the earliest and more realistically, we will have to wait until 2022.

In the interview, Byrne also discussed how social distancing rules will impact filming. By the sounds of it, he already has a pretty good idea of how the new distancing rules will be implemented on set.

He explained: “We have a pretty good idea of how we are going to achieve those scenes, whether it’s intimacy or fighting… there’s definitely a way to do it and that’s what a lot of this downtime has been about.”

You can watch season five of Peaky Blinders on Netflix now.
