If DC Comics ever decided to bring their hero Plastic Man to the big screen, Ben Schwartz will be first in the line to audition for the part.

Schwartz, who voiced Sonic the Hedgehog in a recent live-action movie, recently talked with Nerdist and revealed that playing Plastic Man would be his dream role. The 39-year-old actor even explained that he once had an idea for a movie centered on this lesser-known DC hero but didn’t go through with it.

“I really wanted to play Plastic Man. I had a pitch, I had an idea for that movie,” said Schwartz. “We didn’t end up writing it, but I would still love to play Plastic Man.”

Plastic Man had its first appearance in 1941. It is the alias of Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, a small thief and burglar who gains elasticity and shape-shifting powers after falling into a tank containing an unidentified chemical. The character was one of the first comic heroes to incorporate elements of humor into storytelling.

“So I really love that,” Schwartz added. “I saw the comedy in that, and there’s a cartoon series that was very comedic too, so you can see where it plays.”

There were several attempts to make a Plastic Man live-action film in the past. Warner Bros. started developing a film based on the hero in the early 1990s, with Bryan Spicer being attached as a director. Despite the movie’s script being finished in 1995, the project never took off.

In 2018, the studio continued developing a Plastic Man movie. The latest news was that Cat Vasko is working on a female version of the character.
