]]>Schwartz, who voiced Sonic the Hedgehog in a recent live-action movie, recently talked with Nerdist and revealed that playing Plastic Man would be his dream role. The 39-year-old actor even explained that he once had an idea for a movie centered on this lesser-known DC hero but didn’t go through with it.
“I really wanted to play Plastic Man. I had a pitch, I had an idea for that movie,” said Schwartz. “We didn’t end up writing it, but I would still love to play Plastic Man.”
Plastic Man had its first appearance in 1941. It is the alias of Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, a small thief and burglar who gains elasticity and shape-shifting powers after falling into a tank containing an unidentified chemical. The character was one of the first comic heroes to incorporate elements of humor into storytelling.
“So I really love that,” Schwartz added. “I saw the comedy in that, and there’s a cartoon series that was very comedic too, so you can see where it plays.”
There were several attempts to make a Plastic Man live-action film in the past. Warner Bros. started developing a film based on the hero in the early 1990s, with Bryan Spicer being attached as a director. Despite the movie’s script being finished in 1995, the project never took off.
In 2018, the studio continued developing a Plastic Man movie. The latest news was that Cat Vasko is working on a female version of the character.
