]]>It’s been over two decades since 28 Days Later kicked off this franchise in 2002, and Boyle is finally ready to take us back. The original film starred Cillian Murphy in his breakout role and became a massive hit, inspiring a commercially and critically successful sequel 28 Weeks Later.
After years of anticipation, the third film in this franchise is finally on the way. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it’s safe to assume that the sequel will be set in the same post-apocalyptic world as its predecessors, impacted by a highly contagious virus.
Boyle is coming on board as a director, while Alex Garland wrote the script. Sony Pictures is reportedly plotting this project as the first part of a trilogy, and they’ve already managed to attract some A-list talent. Emmy winner Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Golden Globe winner Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train), and Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel) are the first stars to join this project in mystery roles.

It’s based on the script of Seth Reiss and Will Tracy, with Adam McKay and Betsy Koch serving as producers.
