It’s the official trailer for Tick, Tick… Boom!

With six weeks to go until its release, Netflix has revealed the film’s first full-length trailer, as well as the artwork, and the song “30/90” from the soundtrack.

Tick, Tick… Boom! tells the autobiographical story of Jonathan Larson, the struggling writer who went on to create the theatrical masterpiece Rent. Although Larson initially performed Tick, Tick… Boom! as a one-man show, it was further adapted for stage (and now screen) after his death.

The Amazing Spider-Man star, Andrew Garfield, has stepped into the writer’s shoes and can be seen both singing and playing the piano in the trailer.

The film is helmed by Lin-Manuel Miranda who is no stranger to the theatre (hello, Hamilton!) but is making his feature film directorial debut.

Tick, Tick… Boom! hits Netflix on November 19th

We know that Lin-Manuel Miranda can lay down a mean rap whilst dressed in breeches better than anyone else.

But now we are getting the chance to see just how well he is behind a camera.

The Hamilton creator has signed on to direct his first feature film.

Lin-Manuel will take on Tick, Tick… Boom! which is based on the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson who wrote Rent.

The production is a full-circle opportunity for Lin-Manuel who starred in a 2014 stage production of the musical which tells the story of an aspiring composer in New York City who is worried he made the wrong career choice.

Lin-Manuel — who is also set to produce the film — expressed excitement, saying, “Jonathan Larson’s captivating storytelling in Rent first taught me that musicals could be contemporary, true to life, and depict your own experiences. But it was Tick, Tick… Boom! that solidified that drive in me to hone my own voice as a playwright.”

We’re sure he won’t throw away his shot.
