Netflix has opted to end the series from creator RuPaul after one season only. 

“End of the road for AJ and The Queen,” RuPaul shared on Twitter Friday. “Netflix has decided to not extend our trip across America. Thank you for all the love & support. We’re so very proud of the work.”

The 10-episode series, which launched on Netflix on January 10, featured RuPaul as Ruby Red, a down-on-her-luck drag queen who travels across America from club to club in a rundown RV with her sidekick AJ played by Izzy G.

AJ and the Queen also starred Michael-Leon Wooley, Tia Carrere, Josh Segarra, and Katerina Tannenbaum.

CBS has announced a talent competition coming to its screens with The Late Late Show host set to do hosting duty there as well.

Entitled The World’s Best, the show will be a global talent competition and will feature acts of all kinds from around the world.

Contestants will have to impress American judges, as well as break through the “wall of the world,” featuring 50 of the world’s most accomplished experts in various fields of entertainment.

The judges for the Mark Burnett and Mike Darnell-produced show have been announced as Santa Clarita Diet actress Drew Barrymore, Drag Race host RuPaul and Keep Your Eyes on Me singer, Faith Hill.

“James Corden is at the top of his game, and there is no one better to host this ultimate international competition series,” said Burnett. “This groundbreaking series is like the Olympics of talent shows and needed the perfect talent combination. Mike and I are thrilled Drew, Faith and RuPaul are all on board. We can’t wait to see the fun they have together.”

The World’s Best will debut with 10 episodes in 2019.

The drag icon looked fantastic in a red tartan suit and his trademark glasses and was accompanied by his husband (George LeBar) and his three sisters. Bill Pannell also made an appearance, aka the school teacher to whom RuPaul credits as his original inspiration.

Famous actress and LGBTQ+ supporter Jane Fonda presented him with his star at the unveiling. She said of the star that it:

“should be at least three sizes bigger than any other star on the walk of fame, because I don’t think anyone else has ever launched an industry like RuPaul has. He created an industry that has given hundreds and hundreds of jobs, and dreams to so many.”

She also said:

“In the past, contestants have come out as HIV-positive on the show and opened up about losing loved ones in the Pulse Night Club shooting, while RuPaul himself is widely recognized for revolutionizing the portrayal of the queer community and bringing drag culture into the mainstream in a way that’s never been done before. For that, a gold star is the least he deserves.”
