]]>The post Barbra Streisand to Receive 2024’s SAG Life Achievement Award appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher described Streisand as “a force of nature who has seamlessly woven her brilliance through the fabric of our industry”, and added that her talent to inhabit her characters with authenticity is nothing short of extraordinary.
Streisand is no stranger to winning major awards—she’s the recipient of two Oscars, four Emmys, ten Grammys, and an honorary Tony Award for the star of the decade in 1970.
Streisand said that this award is especially meaningful to her because it comes from her fellow actors and reflected on her journey to build a successful career in the entertainment industry.
“Ever since I was a young girl sitting in the Loew’s Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, I dreamed of being one of those actresses I saw on the screen. The movies were a portal to a world I could only imagine. Even though I was an unlikely candidate, somehow my dream came true,” said Streisand in a statement.
The SAG Awards nominees will be announced on January 10, while the ceremony will take place on February 24, 2024.

The film’s stars Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Michelle Yeoh came out victorious in their respective categories, making Everything Everywhere the most-awarded film in SAG’s history with four wins.
When it comes to the TV categories, The White Lotus was the biggest winner of the night with two awards. It managed to beat Better Call Saul, The Crown, Ozark, and Severance to win the trophy for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series, while Jennifer Coolidge won a trophy for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series.
The comedy field was pretty colorful and Abbott Elementary managed to pick up the award for the outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series, while the list of the individual winners included The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White and Hack’s Jean Smart.
The 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards took place on February 26 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Century City, California, and the ceremony was streamed live on Netflix’s YouTube channel.

It managed to walk away with this award, while one of its stars Troy Kotsur won the trophy for the best supporting actor.
The rest of the individual acting awards made it easier to predict the rest of the Oscar race and went to some of the front-runners. Will Smith won the best actor award for King Richard, Jessica Chastain was named best actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and Ariana DeBose was awarded for her supporting turn in West Side Story.
Succession and Ted Lasso were clear favorites for the ensemble awards in the TV field, and they lived up to our expectations. Squid Game was also one of the biggest winners of the night with three awards, including best actor and actress in a drama (Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-Yeon), and best stunt ensemble.

]]>The SAG Awards are now scheduled to take place on April 4th, with a live broadcast on both TNT and TBS. They were previously scheduled to be held on March 14th, but this date would put them in direct conflict with the Grammys after this ceremony was postponed last week.
Once it became clear that their dates would clash, SAG-AFTRA released an official statement expressing their disappointment with the Recording Academy’s decision to take their date.
“We announced the same date for the SAG Awards last July with the intent to give the greatest possible scheduling consideration for other awards shows. We expect the same consideration from sister organizations throughout the industry,” reads the statement by this organization.
They added they’ll keep working with their sister organizations to find ways to make this year’s awards season as successful as possible because they share many of the same members. Postponing the ceremony seemed to be the only solution to this problem, but the nominees are still expected to be announced on February 4th.

]]>The SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris announced their decision to honor De Niro in an official statement and described him as one of the biggest talents of his generation.
“The characters he creates captivate our imaginations. From the smoldering inferno of young Vito Corleone to the raging bull Jake Lamotta and everybody’s grandpa Ben Whittaker, he continues to touch our hearts and open our minds to new and exciting worlds of understanding and emotion,” said Carteris.
De Niro rose to prominence during the ‘70s, when he started a decades-long collaboration with Martin Scorsese by starring in his movies Mean Streets and Taxi Driver. He also won his first Oscar for the role in The Godfather: Part II during this era.
He went on to star in some of the most critically acclaimed films of the ‘80s and ‘90s and made a switch to comedy with the role in the Meet the Parents franchise. De Niro’s most recent credits include Scorsese’s The Irishman and box office hit Joker.

]]>CODA was going against Belfast, Don’t Look Up, The House of Gucci, and King Richard for the biggest award of the night—an outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.
This year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards were held on February 27th at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.
