This year’s award season is slowly reaching its final stage, and the SAG Awards are the latest ceremony to turn up the heat on Saturday night. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and the FX dramedy The Bear emerged as the top winners at this award show with three wins each.

The cast of Oppenheimer defeated American Fiction, Barbie, The Color Purple, and Killers of the Flower Moon to win the ceremony’s main award – the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.

Its stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. continued their award sweep in their respective individual categories, and they were joined by Lily Gladstone (best lead actress for Killers of the Flower Moon) and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (best supporting actress for The Holdovers).

After conquering the Emmys and the Golden Globes, The Bear continued its domination at the SAG Awards. It emerged victorious in three categories: outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series plus individual acting accolades for its stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri.

The final season of Succession shockingly underperformed, only winning the trophy for the outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series. Individual awards in the TV drama field went to Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) and Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown).

The 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards were held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles on February 24.

The Screen Actors Guild is the latest major organization to unveil its list of nominees, honoring the best film and TV performances of the past year. Barbie and Oppenheimer topped the list of film nominees, while Succession led the way in the television field.

Barbie and Oppenheimer are both contenders for the main award of the night – the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. The list of nominees for this award also includes the TIFF winner American Fiction, the star-studded musical The Color Purple, and Martin Scorsese’s historical epic Killers of the Flower Moon.

Barbra Streisand won pretty much every major award in existence over the years, and her collection is constantly growing. The iconic actress and singer will be honored with the life achievement award at the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards.

SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher described Streisand as “a force of nature who has seamlessly woven her brilliance through the fabric of our industry”, and added that her talent to inhabit her characters with authenticity is nothing short of extraordinary.

Streisand is no stranger to winning major awards—she’s the recipient of two Oscars, four Emmys, ten Grammys, and an honorary Tony Award for the star of the decade in 1970.

Streisand said that this award is especially meaningful to her because it comes from her fellow actors and reflected on her journey to build a successful career in the entertainment industry.

“Ever since I was a young girl sitting in the Loew’s Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, I dreamed of being one of those actresses I saw on the screen. The movies were a portal to a world I could only imagine. Even though I was an unlikely candidate, somehow my dream came true,” said Streisand in a statement.

The SAG Awards nominees will be announced on January 10, while the ceremony will take place on February 24, 2024.

Awards season is the full swing right now and the Screen Actors Guild is the latest organization to unveil their list of nominees. The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All at Once will be the main contenders at this year’s SAG Awards, with five nominations each.

Both films are in the running for the show’s top award – the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. Many of the previous recipients of this award went on win the best picture at the Oscars, and the list of this year’s contenders also includes Babylon, The Fabelmans, and Women Talking.

The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All at Once will face each other in two more categories: best supporting actor (Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan vs. Ke Huy Quan) and best supporting actress (Kerry Condon vs. Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu). The Banshees’ Colin Farrell and Everything Everywhere’s Michelle Yeoh have also received nods for their respective lead performances.

Ozark is leading the way in the television categories with four nominations, including the outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series, while Better Call Saul is right behind with three. Barry and Only Murders in the Building also received three nominations in the comedy field.

The SAG Awards are the latest major ceremony to name its winners as this year’s awards season slowly nears its end. The indie drama CODA pulled a major upset and won the biggest award of the night, while Succession and Ted Lasso came out victorious in the TV categories.

CODA was going against Belfast, Don’t Look Up, The House of Gucci, and King Richard for the biggest award of the night—an outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. It managed to walk away with this award, while one of its stars Troy Kotsur won the trophy for the best supporting actor.

The rest of the individual acting awards made it easier to predict the rest of the Oscar race and went to some of the front-runners. Will Smith won the best actor award for King Richard, Jessica Chastain was named best actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and Ariana DeBose was awarded for her supporting turn in West Side Story.

Succession and Ted Lasso were clear favorites for the ensemble awards in the TV field, and they lived up to our expectations. Squid Game was also one of the biggest winners of the night with three awards, including best actor and actress in a drama (Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-Yeon), and best stunt ensemble.

This year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards were held on February 27th at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

Most major movie organizations have released their award contenders by now, and the Screen Actors Guild is the latest to join a growing list. The list of SAG Awards nominations is in, with House of Gucci and The Power of the Dog scoring most nods in the movie categories, while Ted Lasso and Succession led the way in the TV field.

House of Gucci is in the running for one of the biggest awards of the night—outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture—but it will have to face tough competition in Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up, and King Richard. Its stars Lady Gaga and Jared Leto also received nominations in their respective categories.

Surprisingly enough, the cast of Jane Campion’s western The Power of the Dog didn’t receive a joint nomination. Its stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, and Kodi Smit-McPhee were recognized for their individual performances, but not with the rest of the cast.

When it comes to the TV field, Ted Lasso and Succession are clear favorites with five nominations each. Squid Game, The Morning Show, and Mare of Easttown followed closely with four nominations each, and Only Murders in the Building was right behind with three.

The SAG Awards will be held on February 27th, and they’ll be broadcast live on TBS and TNT.

After the Recording Academy postponed the Grammys last week, it seemed like we’ll have to pick between watching this award show and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, but that’s no longer the case. The latter has also been delayed to avoid clashing with the Grammys.

The SAG Awards are now scheduled to take place on April 4th, with a live broadcast on both TNT and TBS. They were previously scheduled to be held on March 14th, but this date would put them in direct conflict with the Grammys after this ceremony was postponed last week.

Once it became clear that their dates would clash, SAG-AFTRA released an official statement expressing their disappointment with the Recording Academy’s decision to take their date.

“We announced the same date for the SAG Awards last July with the intent to give the greatest possible scheduling consideration for other awards shows. We expect the same consideration from sister organizations throughout the industry,” reads the statement by this organization.

They added they’ll keep working with their sister organizations to find ways to make this year’s awards season as successful as possible because they share many of the same members. Postponing the ceremony seemed to be the only solution to this problem, but the nominees are still expected to be announced on February 4th.

Robert De Niro already has dozens of prestigious awards under his belt, and he’s ready to add another one to his trophy shelf. The Oscar-winning star of The Godfather and Taxi Driver is set to receive a life achievement award at the Screen Actor Guild Awards.

The SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris announced their decision to honor De Niro in an official statement and described him as one of the biggest talents of his generation.

“The characters he creates captivate our imaginations. From the smoldering inferno of young Vito Corleone to the raging bull Jake Lamotta and everybody’s grandpa Ben Whittaker, he continues to touch our hearts and open our minds to new and exciting worlds of understanding and emotion,” said Carteris.

De Niro rose to prominence during the ‘70s, when he started a decades-long collaboration with Martin Scorsese by starring in his movies Mean Streets and Taxi Driver. He also won his first Oscar for the role in The Godfather: Part II during this era.

He went on to star in some of the most critically acclaimed films of the ‘80s and ‘90s and made a switch to comedy with the role in the Meet the Parents franchise. De Niro’s most recent credits include Scorsese’s The Irishman and box office hit Joker.
