]]>Shortly after Bridgerton debuted on the streaming network, Abigail Barlow took to TikTok where she posed the question, “What if Bridgerton was a musical?” The singer-songwriter then proceeded to sing a verse she had written that was inspired by the show. The video quickly grew in popularity and together with her musical partner, Emily Bear, Barlow began to release more songs based on the series’ first season.
Within nine months, the songs had been turned into a concept album (which won Best Musical Theater Album at this year’s Grammys), and Barlow & Bear had been invited to perform at the Kennedy Centre in September 2021 for its 50th anniversary concert. The pair had also received praise from the show’s cast, author Julia Quinn, and Netflix for their creativity.
However, the streamer is now singing a different tune.
Netflix is suing the duo for “blatant infringement” in light of the recent concert held at the Kennedy Centre in which Broadway stars performed the album live. According to the lawsuit, Barlow & Bear appropriated others’ creative work for their own financial benefit.
“Bridgerton reflects the creative work and hard-earned success of hundreds of artists and Netflix employees. Netflix owns the exclusive right to create Bridgerton songs, musicals, or any other derivative works based on Bridgerton,” read the complaint. “Barlow & Bear cannot take that right — made valuable by others’ hard work — for themselves, without permission. Yet that is exactly what they have done.“
The network claims that the Grammy winners refused to negotiate a license to market and expand on their Bridgerton-related work, despite being told numerous times that their live performances were not authorized and would be considered copyright and trademark infringement.
In perhaps the biggest knock to the musicians, Quinn has shown support for Netflix’s lawsuit.
“I would hope that Barlow & Bear, who share my position as independent creative professionals, understand the need to protect other professionals’ intellectual property, including the characters and stories I created in the Bridgertonnovels over twenty years ago,” she said.
Shonda Rhimes, who created the television adaptation, issued a similar statement.
Barlow & Bear have yet to comment.

]]>As one of the original cast members, the departure of Dr. Izzie Stevens felt as painful as some of the procedures which the interns had to perform. More than a decade after hanging up her white coat, Katherine Heigl is now revealing what led to her decision as part of the new book by Lynette Rice titled How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey’s Anatomy.
Although several rumors did the rounds, Heigl says that adopting her daughter Nancy Leigh and becoming a mother is what prompted her decision.
“I went on family leave and just got to be a mom, and it changed my whole perspective. It changed my desire to work full-time,” she explained.
Reports claimed that drama behind the scenes had caused then-showrunner Shonda Rhimes to write Izzie out, but the Firefly Lane actress confirmed Rhimes wanted to keep the new parent onboard, yet scheduling conflicts got in the way.
At least Izzie will live on in our hearts.

]]>Having been on the air since 2014, Professor Annelise Keating will begin her final lecture this year after it was announced that the series would be coming to an end after its upcoming 6th season.
“Deciding to end this series was a brutal decision, but ultimately the story tells you what to do – as it did here. For me, Annalise Keating’s journey has always had a clear ending. Knowing I have 15 episodes left to finish her story, and the chance to give all the characters their own killer endings, is a gift rarely given to a series creator and I’m grateful to ABC and ABC Studios for the opportunity and creative freedom,” series creator Pete Nowalk said in a statement.
“I am so thankful to the brilliant cast, writers and crew for dedicating themselves to the most rewarding experience of my career over the last six years. I also want to thank our fans. The only reason this show exists is because of your loyalty and enthusiasm. I can’t wait for you all to see how it ends, with twists and turns and all the craziness we love to create every Thursday night. Buckle up,” he added.
Viola Davis has played Keating throughout the show’s run alongside Billy Brown, Jack Falahee, Aja Naomi King, Matt McGorry, Charlie Weber, Liza Weil, Conrad Ricamora, Rome Flynn, and Amirah Vann.
The series’ sixth and final season will commence September 26th.

The Dame will now loan her distinct pipes to Shonda Rhimes’ upcoming project on the streaming service.
The series is based on the Bridgerton novels by Julia Quinn that is set amongst London’s high society in the early 1800s, specifically focusing on the Bridgerton family consisting of 8 close-knit siblings.
Andrew’s will provide the voice of Lady Whistledown who, with her anonymous social commentary combined with biting wit, makes her sounds like a vintage Gossip Girl.
Rhimes will serve as executive producer of the 8-episode series that will drop next year.
We wonder if there will be a “lonely boy” type character…

Now, the lady behind it all, Shonda Rhimes, has revealed just who she would like to bring back to the series.
“I need Addison Forbes Montgomery too! I can’t bring back people who don’t exist, in terms of availability. Kate Walsh is busy people. She’s busy!” said the 48-year-old during a Q & A on her Instagram story.
Shonda also mentioned Sara Ramirez who played orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Callie Torres.
“Let me tell you something, we tried! CBS has a hold of her because she’s on another show [Madam Secretary] and we can’t get her out. But we love her… ALWAYS. This is her home. Come home, Callie.”
But old wounds reopened when the Chicago native said, “If I could bring back any Grey’s character, it would be George O’Malley [played by T.R. Knight]. I love George so much and I miss George so much! He was such an awesome character and he was super funny, and adorable, and amazing. George!”
