]]>Speaking with TrekMovie, Wil Wheaton, who played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation said he “absolutely loves” Lower Decks and would be happy to take part in it. “I would do the show in a heartbeat! I’m a massive fan. Who says ‘no’ to Star Trek? Who says, ‘No thank you. I don’t want to do Star Trek?’ Who says that? A dumb person.”
Wheaton also elaborated on why it is a good idea. “Yeah, of course, I would do it in a heartbeat. And honestly, I feel like animation is probably where Wesley could actually exist in his most faithful canonical form right now … In my headcanon, Wesley Crusher is a Time Lord. In my headcanon, Wesley is off with The Traveler. He experienced some kind of multidimensional, higher-dimensional experience and it changed him and changed who he is and what he does. And he’s a very different kind of character now than he was the last time we saw him.”

]]>The new animated show will follow the lower ranking Starfleet personnel stationed on “one of the Starfleet’s least important ships, the U.S.S. Cerritos, in 2380.”
The show was created by Rick and Morty writer Mike McMahan and its characters are tasked with important missions such as taking out the space trash. Oh, and they will also save planets and keep human hearts beating without a body—small things like that.
The show will premiere on the streaming service on Thursday, August 6. It will feature Eugene Cordero as Ensign Rutherford, Tawny Newsome as Mariner, Jack Quaid as Bomler, and Noel Wells as Tendi. Jerry O’Connell will voice Commander Ramson and Dawnn Lewis will voice Captain Freeman.
It should be refreshing to see a show focusing on the less glamorous jobs in the fleet rather than on the unbeatable heroes that usually get all the spotlight.
