Star Wars has been turned into an anime version in the first trailer for Disney Plus’ Star Wars: Visions.

The series, which was first revealed at the Anime Expo Lite in July, shows nine original stories from seven Japanese anime studies. The studios include Kamikaze Douga, Geno Studio (Twin Engine), Studio Colorido (Twin Engine), Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Science Saru, and Production IG.

The trailer has new heroes, villains, blasters, aliens, and lightsabers paired with impressive animation overlaid with Japanese narration.

Japanese and English versions of the series will be released. The English-dubbed cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lucy Liu, Henry Golding, Simu Liu, George Takei, Alison Brie, David Harbour, Karen Fukuhara, Bobby Moynihan, Neil Patrick Harris, Kimiko Glenn, Kyle Chandler, James Hong, Jordan Fisher, Temuera Morrison, and more.

“As a first formal venture into anime, each ‘Star Wars: Visions’ short bears a unique Japanese sensibility, which in many ways aligns with the tone and spirit of Star Wars storytelling,” Disney Plus stated in a press release back in July via Variety. “From the beginning, stories told in the Star Wars galaxy have counted Japanese mythology and the films of Akira Kurosawa among their many influences, and these new visions will further explore that cultural heritage through the unique animation style and perspective of each anime studio.”

Star Wars: Visions will be released on September 22. Check out the trailer below.
