A new docuseries from Apple TV+ will feature Oprah Winfrey, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stevie Wonder, and more as its subjects. 

The series, titled Dear…, which hails from Emmy and Peabody Award winner RJ Cutler takes an “inventive and cinematic approach to biographies of the most iconic figures in society today by using letters written by those whose lives have been changed through their work.”

Also featured in the series’ first 10-episode season are Gloria Steinem, Spike Lee, Yara Shahidi, Aly Raisman, Misty Copeland, and Big Bird among others.

Dear… is set to debut on the streaming service sometime in the spring.

The “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” singer revealed to fans that he has not been so well of late, but is preparing for a medical procedure which could change his life.

During his performance at Barclaycard’s British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park, the 69-year-old told the crowd that he would be undergoing a kidney transplant in September.

“I’m going to be doing three shows then taking a break,” he said. “I’m having surgery. I’m going to have a kidney transplant at the end of September this year. I came here to give you my love and to thank you for yours. You ain’t gotta hear no rumors about us, I’m good.”

Wonder did not reveal the reason for the transplant but did say that a donor for the surgery has already been lined up.

The singer is set to perform three more shows before the big day.

We’re sure that when he is in hospital he’ll have many calls just to say I love you.

Stevie performed more than half a dozen songs at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles to celebrate the record label that influenced great artists like Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.

While addressing the crowd, Motown’s founder Berry Gordy said he had fulfilled his lifelong dream of creating a record label that produced music for “all people.” Gordy opened the label in 1959 as a studio label for underappreciated artists. With time, The Supremes, Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and many more joined him.

“My dream was to make music for all people,” Gordy said. “Well, my dream came true…I want to thank all of you fans, and your parents, and their grandparents. All around the world. I could say their great grandparents, but that would make me older than I want to be.”

John Legend covered some of Motown’s legendary hits, including Gaye’s “Mercy Me”. Ne-Yo covered “I’ll be There” by The Jackson 5 while Ciara did a rendition of “Give It to Me Baby.” Diana Ross forced the audience to stand as she wowed them with her iconic voice.

Other artists in the house included Chloe X Halle, Tori Kelly, Martha Reeves and Meghan Trainor. Jennifer Lopez, who did a tribute of Motown at the Grammy awards on Sunday was not present.

Aretha Franklin passed away on the 16th of August at the age of 76 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

In the week leading up to her funeral, the body of the Detroit native was made available for public viewing at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History.

The funeral itself took place at the Greater Grace Temple where stars such as Ariana Grande, Fantasia, and Faith Hill performed tributes to the late icon who was the first woman to be inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame.

Aretha was eulogized by former US President, Bill Clinton, who described himself and his wife Hilary as “groupies”.

The “Respect” singer had performed at Clinton’s inauguration as President in 1993, with the statesman saying, “She lived with faith. Not without failure, but overcoming her failures. She lived with power. Not without weakness, but overcoming her weaknesses. She took the talent, and the family, and decided to be the composer of her own life song. And what a song it turned out to be.”

Stevie Wonder also paid tribute, stating that “Through the pain, she gave us the joy and said let’s make love great again,” before playing out the funeral by dedicating his song, I’ll Be Loving You Aways, to Aretha.

Across the pond, the Band of Welsh Guards at Buckingham Palace played a rendition of Respect whilst changing the guard.
