JumpStart is based on Robb Armstrong’s long-running comic strip, which originally debuted in 1989. It centers on a Philadelphia cop Joseph L. Cobb (Crews), who is also a proud Black man and often feels pressured to be flawless in each of his roles, as a husband, son, father, and police officer.

Wayne Conley (The Best Man) penned the script for the TV adaptation of Armstrong’s comics, while Phill Lewis is on board to direct and executive produce the pilot. Crews is also co-producing with Aaron Kaplan and Melanie Frankel of Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling of TrillTV, Troy Zien, and Robb Armstrong’s producer Bridget McMeel.

Crews is best known for his role in the acclaimed sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which ended its run in 2021. He hasn’t played a main TV role since this series went off the air, but he’s been pretty busy hosting NBC’s America’s Got Talent. He also made guest appearances on several TV shows in the meantime, such as Tales of the Walking Dead and Space Force.

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star is campaigning for his next film role as King Triton, Ariel’s dad, in Disney’s forthcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. 

But the 50-year-old actor went about sharing his wishes with the world in the most hilarious way — posting an image of himself photoshopped onto King Triton’s fishtail while also holding a trident and floating in front of the kingdom of Atlantica on social media. 

He even created two hashtags to help promote his campaign — #ArielsGotTerry and #AmericasGotTerry.

It looks like fans could be for Crews to get the part if the number of likes the image garnered on Twitter and Instagram are any indication — just in case you were wondering that number currently stands at half a million likes total!

Already in talks to be cast in The Little Mermaid, are Awkwafina, Jason Tremblay and Melissa McCarthy, who, should they join will star as Scuttle, Flounder, and Ursula, respectively.

The fourteenth season of the hugely successful talent competition will add Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough to the judge’s table. Taking over hosting of NBC’s flagship summer series is Terry Crews.

“One of the many secrets to the success and longevity of America’s Got Talent is its fearless drive to reinvent itself,” Meredith Ahr, president, alternative and reality group at NBC Entertainment, said Monday in a statement. “The next evolution of the format brings in fresh expert eyes to join Simon and Howie on the panel. Gabrielle and Julianne are two of the most aspirational women in the business, on top of being electric entertainers with talent across disciplines. I am excited to see how their knowledge, compassion and sheer joy enhance the experience for acts and viewers alike. As their partner in crime, host Terry Crews will continue to light up the stage with his quick wit and unending charm.”

Union and Hough are taking over judging duties from Heidi Klum and Mel B. They will join executive producer Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel. 

This is the first change to the judges in three years. Tyra Banks served as host for two seasons.
