Season 12 of The Big Bang Theory, which will air in 2019, will be the last. Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper in the popular series, allegedly turned down over $50 million to appear in two more seasons of the show.

Parsons has not yet addressed the reason for his departure but has shared a heartfelt message to the show’s viewers via Instagram.

“Something else I feel grateful for – and this gratitude needs no time to “sink in” or become more “realised;” this grateful-feeling is always with me but is multiplied in this moment of us announcing our final season – but I feel such intense gratitude for our devoted viewers who are the ACTUAL reason we have been graced with the opportunity to explore these characters for 12 years of our lives.”

He continued: “You are my playmates when we don’t feel like playing but have to because it’s our job to get out there and communicate and pretend we’re these other fictional people and we look into each other’s eyes and say these words and end up creating this weird, other reality that has enriched my life more than I will fully ever understand.

“I will miss all of you and all of this more than I can say and more than I can know at this time.”

The Big Bang Theory has run for 279 episodes, making it the longest multi-camera comedy show in TV history.

CBS has announced that The Big Bang Theory will be ending after its forthcoming season.

Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, Raj, Penny, Amy, and Bernadette have been a part of our lives since 2007 and has consistently been rated as the number one sitcom in America.

The network had been in preliminary discussions to extend the show beyond its 12th season, but a joint statement from CBS, Warner Bros. Television, and Chuck Lorre Productions have confirmed that the series will come to an end in May.

“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.”

The 5 principal members of the cast are currently the highest paid on television, though Johnny Galecki who plays Dr. Leonard Hofstadter said in January, “The only way we’ve discussed wrapping the show is we’re all going to be very sad when that day comes. I think at this point everyone is very comfortable with 12 seasons being a good time to go home and see our families.

And that day will come after the newest season premieres on the 24th of September.
