Jim Parsons has revealed the real reason he decided to leave The Big Bang Theory after twelve seasons on the show.

Parsons played Sheldon Cooper on the show, which ran for twelve seasons and snapped up four Emmys and one Golden Globe. Speaking on David Tennant’s podcast, Parsons revealed what prompted him to leave the show after so many years.

“It was a complicated road as you can imagine,” he explained. “In retrospect, it was just happening before my eyes. We went through the 11th season and that summer I went to New York to do Boys in the Band on Broadway.”

He went onto reveal that on top of scheduling conflicts, it was the death of his beloved dog that prompted Parsons to reflect on his career.

“I was so beaten down. I walked out for curtain call [on Boys in the Band] and I slipped and I broke my foot. It was the scariest moment for the next couple of days because I felt like I was at the edge of a cliff,” he recalled.

“I was teetering and I saw something really dark below between the death of the dog. The bottom line was that it was a really intense summer. The dog passing away, he was 14, and Todd and I had been together for 15 years at that point, so it just was the end of an era.”

“I had this moment of clarity that I think you’re very fortunate to get in a lot of ways, of going: ‘Don’t keep speeding by’. You know? ‘Use this time to take a look around’. And I did.”

Parsons may have left The Big Bang Theory but you can still watch seasons one through twelve on Netflix now.

CBS’ hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory is ending after its 12th season, but it isn’t because Kaley Cuoco, who plays Penny on the show, got tired of the role, that’s for sure. As a matter of fact, the 32-year-old actress wouldn’t mind if the sitcom would go on for a few more decades.

Speaking with Extra, Cuoco shared her feelings about the end of The Big Bang Theory and said she would be willing to do it 20 more years. “It’s broken my heart,” Cuoco told the magazine. “I am so sad that it’s ending. For the record, I would have done 20 more years.”

The rest of the cast didn’t take news any better than she did. “I was bad, but everyone was crying,” she added. “I think we were all hoping for a giant Bazinga!”

The Big Bang Theory will come to an end after this upcoming season, but the fans might get a consolation prize. According to reports from various sources, the show’s co-creator Chuck Lorre is considering doing a spinoff. If that were to happen, Kaley Cuoco would be immediately on board. “If he called me and said ‘let’s do something’ tomorrow, I would,” she said about the possibility.

While it was believed that The Big Bang Theory will go on for at least several more years, it was announced in August that the show’s 12th season would also be its last. While the reasons for this decision were not revealed to the public, according to sources, Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon, wasn’t willing to continue with the series. It is believed that that the rest of the cast was ready to go on for a couple more seasons.

Jim Parsons has shared a heartfelt message about his departure from The Big Bang Theory.

Season 12 of The Big Bang Theory, which will air in 2019, will be the last. Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper in the popular series, allegedly turned down over $50 million to appear in two more seasons of the show.

Parsons has not yet addressed the reason for his departure but has shared a heartfelt message to the show’s viewers via Instagram.

“Something else I feel grateful for – and this gratitude needs no time to “sink in” or become more “realised;” this grateful-feeling is always with me but is multiplied in this moment of us announcing our final season – but I feel such intense gratitude for our devoted viewers who are the ACTUAL reason we have been graced with the opportunity to explore these characters for 12 years of our lives.”

He continued: “You are my playmates when we don’t feel like playing but have to because it’s our job to get out there and communicate and pretend we’re these other fictional people and we look into each other’s eyes and say these words and end up creating this weird, other reality that has enriched my life more than I will fully ever understand.

“I will miss all of you and all of this more than I can say and more than I can know at this time.”

The Big Bang Theory has run for 279 episodes, making it the longest multi-camera comedy show in TV history.
