A live-action version of the classic Cartoon Network series is in development at the CW with Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody working on the project. The updated version of the series will have the superheroes playing twentysomethings who resent losing their childhood to fight crime, but the world needs them now more than ever. Will they reunite and save the world?

The original The Powerpuff Girls was created by Craig McCracken and it ran for six seasons between 1998 and 2005. In the series, Professor Utonium accidentally created the kindergarten-aged girls, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, by combining sugar, spice, and everything nice with Chemical X. The superpower team lived in Townsville, USA and they were called upon by the city’s mayor to help stop criminals and enemies.

The Powerpuff Girls Movie was released in 2002 and a rebooted animated series aired on Cartoon Network premiered in 2016 with the third season wrapping up in June 2019.
